Cheez Whiz has never been sold in an aerosol can. I dunno how spraying cheese sauce that way could work. They might sell it in a ketchup-like squeeze bottle, but I've never seen it. Normally it comes in a jar.

I guess cheese whiz could have been a catch all phrase for any processed cheese in a bottle, and that was actually easycheese.
dammit why is this important to me?

It probably sounded better than saying "Snack Mate", which is what Easy Cheese was called then afaik. From what I can tell there may have been a Cheez Whiz spinoff in the 80's that was in a can but I've never seen it and I can't confirm that. It's certainly not what people mean when they're talking about Cheez Whiz which is a cheese sauce in a jar.
Anyway, Cheez Whiz is godly on potatoes and nachos and fries (nowadays you can just put it in a cup and melt it a bit in the microwave).. It's also the cheese used in real cheesesteaks.
This is what the current packaging looks like, if you're trying to find it. For some reason it's usually in weird places in supermarkets, at least around here. You'd think it would be sold with salsa and nacho cheese sauce but it's actually in with the boxed cheese in the cooler, typically:
