Well, I was going to say something about how everyone in this thread was "fagging up the debate with pointless semantics", and to please stop. High five for beating me to the punch.
I mean, really, does anyone give a flying fuck about whether something fits the proper definition of a sandwhich? Its the taste that counts for fuck's sake. In the end nothing else really matters and for most of us the definition of the food is going to be very near the botto of our priorities list.

Key word is "most". Its not that hard to get better bread, all you have to do is venture beyond the box-mart grocery stores. Even whole foods has some decent( how good depends on the local staff) breads at reasonable prices. I still highly recommend that you try making your own. No bread after that first hot, still moist from the oven slice you have is going to compare.

It does actually, it changes the manner in which toppings and condiments are added, and by which it is consumed, thus altering the subtle flavor characteristics. These are fundamental changes. First off. It takes two baby. I mean to make a sandwich. ZB is quite correct here.
Open face has its moments. But you need to melt cheese on top to hold things together.
Anyway, here's a computer generated ham sandwich that doubles as a map to aid our hero.
