Anyone play/played? It's a fun game, a bit rough around the edges because it's done by an indie dev, but it's constantly getting updates. The community is really active, if a bit hostile. Worth checking out, IMHO. My account name is misanthropy if you want to hit me up.
EDIT: I totally missed (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=119323&highlight=savage) this other thread about this game, so if this needs to be locked/deleted I apologize. If that's the case, is thread necroing ok?

No that other thread was worthless. The game has improved quite a bit since. I still don't play it now though as the lack of variety has killed it... its a lot like sins for me. Just missing some magic that gives it replayability. I bought 2 copies so they at least have my $60. Hopefully the next incarnation can have a little more depth.

Yea, it's fun and fun to support, but it's super frustrating to play. It's one of those games that if you're winning you might be having fun but if you're losing just forget it, it's hell.

:D Thanks. Figured it was fitting in a game featuring Humans vs Beasts.

I've recently come back to the game. With the new combat system, and several other changes, I feel that even the losing team stands a bigger chance than before to win a game
I apologise for the thread necro, but why start a new thread when there is (was) an ongoing one? I'd like to give this game credit as one of the best online games ever
For those of you who don't know what Savage 2 is about first, here's a mild description of it: there are two teams - beasts and humans. Both teams are asymmetrical to each other - even the healers on both teams differ. The objective of the game is to destroy each other's stronghold, while at the same time trying to expand your economy by spreading out your base
I'd say the game would be a mish mash between Warcraft 3 (RTS management), Enemy Territory (commander gives objectives) and Dynasty Warriors (individual unit's combat system). Each team can be assigned a commander - players either vote commander in, or if there isn't a commander, anyone can opt to take command. The commander's role is a very difficult one, and very exhausting too - he has to select appropriate locations to expand the base, give troops orders, formulate good strategies to raid the enemy, buff troops etc. It can be a very rewarding experience if done right, and imo a good commander who can coordinate with his troops is really something to be proud of
The rest of the units would be playing right on the battlefield. There are 7 main unit types - there's the builder, the stealth warrior type, the main warrior, the bigger main warrior, the healer, the melee siege unit and the ranged siege unit. Each is distinctively different from the others, and both races are distinctively different from each other. The situation can get very chaotic, especially with more players. You might find yourself engaged in a huge battle for an important chokepoint, or during quieter moments, maybe defending an important base. Whatever it is, you can always feel the tension and action going on, and nothing is more rewarding than successfully allowing your commander to build a spawn point on that chokepoint after you've pushed back the invaders
The coolest aspect of the game has to be the tide-changing units: the hellborne. This is the reason that led me to subscribe to a premium account (aside from the
new combat system). Right, some background info: for every enemy unit you kill, you get a
soul. Now, every map has 1-2 special landmarks called
scars - commanders build Hellshrines on Scars. Once the Hellshrines are built, you can sell your Souls and become one of three hellborne units. The feeling of exhileration as you completely obliterate any incoming footsoldiers is wicked. The sky becomes a bright hue red, and before you know it, people start running for their lives. It's crazy, but it's this
feeling you get that just makes you want to keep going for more kills
For those who haven't played the game yet, I urge you to try it out, since it's free now. The player population has boomed ever since it became F2P. If you don't like it, you only lose a few hours of your life; if you like it, you get to support a bunch of awesome indie developers, and have a new addiction in your life. The latest changes made to the game have changed my mind about it. So, I urge all of you to give it another try if you haven't, or didn't like it before. You might just find your next favourite multiplayer game

Has anyone tried it recently then? Any comments on the latest changes so far? :D
