You know, I just finished "Inverted Manse" and it didn't really scare me at all. The only feeling I felt was hesitation while I thought of how to
get past the two haunt-things guarding the underground hammer building.
I think it's probably because
the sword and the gauntlet :D were able to kill undead.
The fright factor for me came in when I had to conserve resources instead of going on a melee killing spree.
The scariest part in my Thief career was in RTC, I was in the room to the right of the altar on the first floor, with the healing font. I just sat there and watched zombies patrol for practically half an hour before I decided to do something. When I broke for it, I had mis-timed so I ran right into a zombie blocking the door. While I panicked, the rest of the zombies and the haunts were alerted. Needless to say, my crtl+alt+end keys needed replacements :)

Hahaha! If it were me, I would've jammed my finger on the quicksave key, instead of the quickload key, and temporarily recorded the moment of my demise.:laff:

I just completed the cradle today. Brilliant level, very tense. When i was walking up to the attic and heard the banging i was thinking 'This is when i die. Oh bugger.'
The Asylum Zombies were freaky, but i was able to cope as i went in with max flashbombs that pulled me through.
When i finished it my brain rationalised the whole experiance; i thought that it wasn't as scary as expected, especially the last third of the mission. However now i'm actually dreading the future prospect of replaying the mission when i play through the game a second time....

DromEd jokes do not have any effect on non-DromEd-ers. Of course, I'm assuming that's a DromEd joke.

Hmm for moi it would have to be a mixture of things. One scary experience was the first, and like someone else said here, that was with Eavesdropping in TMA. I can't really remember it though that well, as it has been YEARS, I must of been like 10 at the time.
Then, Return to the Cathedral in Thief 1, need I explain more?
I've never played TDS all the way through but I remember watching my brother do the first two-thirds of the cradle (he finished it while I was at school :S). That was extremely tense, and once again I don't really need to go into too much detail there ;)
I can't remember which FM it was, it was Thief 1, the Hammer Guards had black where there once was red on their clothing, and you started outside in very plain looking, greyish "grounds". The final boss just looked like Brother Murus fighting in space. That was scary simply because I didn't know how to actually GET up to him, and there were more wierd noises.
But -- to ANYONE that has the classic Doom games here, I've recently played an 'FM' for Doom that totally just freaked me out. I'll copy and paste what I said on another forum:
QUOTE: "Judging by what loads of people here said, and looking at the screenshots (which had nothing in them really) I downloaded and played GF3. Holy f*** that was scary.
But, I don't get what your supposed to do. Might of been my GZDoom, but the first time I played it, when the fire goes out it goes PITCH black and you can't see anything. I just stood for a few seconds and heard that *thing* and died.
Tried again with god mode, died again.
So I tried again. Froze it, summoned *6* friendly Cyberdemons, Infra-Red Goggles and Fly JUST to see what the hell it was you were fighting. I don't know if the sprites of the Ghoul's are supposed to be seen, but they did look like utter crap :P
So I (or I should say the 6 cyberdemons) defeat the first 3 ghouls... then I wait for a few moments and nothing happens (oh yeah I had IDDT too so I could see the things spawn again and again).
So I see what looks like a grave on the map. Go towards it and then BANG those images appear and I just hit ESCAPE -- QUIT. That totally, totally, TOTALLY RULED as a horror WAD, but I don't understand the gameplay so... and don't ask why I'm saying this I just felt like it"END OF QUOTE

Not scaring, per se, but infinitely eerie was the Inner Cradle. Silhouettes of the wardens stooping over the burnt-out cots of their young charges got to me a little, knowing beforehand of the orphanage/asylum association of the place.
Eerie, chilling.

With all the undead about, you'd think the Hammers would've invented the flame-thrower looooooong ago. Save ya a lot of friggin time tryin ta bash zombies skulls in with a hammer when ya could just as easily stay a safe few meters away, and burn em into a nice little cinder.
CAN YOU SPELL "BARBEQUE?!" YEAH BABY! :thumb:
