Can anyone suggest some really scary games for the PC?
Preferably something fairly realistic in setting but I don't mind if it's got supernatural elements like blair witch or something.
Generally I don't scare easily so I want to be tested lol.
Thanks :)

Penumbra(probably the scariest game series i have personally played, others will disagree)
(

Amneisa - The Dark Descent(From the same developer, looking like its going to be even scarier than Penumbra. Comes out in a few weeks)

Clive Barkers Undying
System Shock 2 ( SHTUP and Rebirth visual upgrade packs highly recommended )
Both of those were terrifying and have made everything I have played afterwords seem pretty easy going. If visuals are important to you then SS2 would be the better choice, since the visual upgrades bring the graphics up to a new level.

Pre-empting dethtoll, Afraid of Monsters, a Half-Life mod.

Silent Hill 2 and 3, (possibly 4 too, but I wouldn't recommend SH:Homecoming). Condemned: Criminal Origins.

God dammit catbarf ;)
(
http://www.moddb.com/mods/afraid-of-monsters-dc) Here's the Director's Cut version of the mod.
As long as we're talking about HL1, (
http://www.moddb.com/mods/heart-of-evil) Heart of Evil has its moments, especially towards the end. That jungle sequence, oh man. I would not recommend Napalm Edition, however- it is completely, irreparably broken, and nobody seems to want to fix it. It took them a year just to release a fucking patch.
(
http://outofhell.net/) Out of Hell for UT2K4. Yes.
I would also recommend Siren for the PS2.
If you play Condemned, be wary about Condemned 2. The gameplay is
much better but the story is noticeably shittier.
Don't bother with Undying, it is pretty much the opposite of scary because it relies too much on linearity and "boo" scares, and everything is too brightly lit. All in all it's a major disappointment, so only play it if you're hard up for a somewhat boring "horror" shooter.

I never played them, but I gather (
http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/phantasmagoria) Phantasmagoria is meant to be quite scary (at least, it's marketed as such).
Also, maybe the Alien vs Predator games? Again, never played them but I guess they could be.

Playing as the marine in both AvP games is sheer terror.
Albeit for different reasons.

Phantasmagoria might have been at the time (over a decade and a half ago). But today its EXTREMELY dated and very cheesy.
AVP can be scary if your the Marine. Ive heard a lot of bad things about the new one though.

So what exactly about "for the PC" did you not understand? :p
