Is that the one made by a bunch of Russians with more psychic bullshit I'm sick of? Or am I thinking of something else?
van HellSing on 7/8/2010 at 18:57
Nope, it's made by a bunch of Austrians with tibetan mystic bullshit.

I've heard mixed things about Cryostasis...is that what you were thinking of dethtoll?
Reminded me to recommend Metro 2033. :thumb:

But Metro 2033 isn't scary in any way, shape, manner, form or fashion. It's Call of Stalker: Modern Apocolypsefare after all.

I tried to play Stalker a few times, but the gameplay threw me off... I mostly mean the fact that enemies are bullet sponges, while you die within a few hits.

While Clear Sky is noticeably lacking (except for one section), Call of Pripyat is
loaded with scary, far more than even Shadow of Chernobyl.
Got to second this. I remember one time nearly going into cardiac arrest when I was pounced by a bloodsucker outside the freedom base during a nighttime thunderstorm. Play Stalker, not just for the scare factor but also for the plain fact that it is one of the greatest games around. It has sneaking, it has great RPG elements, and it has real balls-to-the-wall moments too. The end of the game is without a doubt the finest finale of anything I've ever played.
Also play it vanilla (i.e. don't install any of the "realism" mods that make every gun ultra-accurate so by two hours in you just own everything - the ballistics system in this game is
top shelf). If you choose to play Call of Pripyat, play it with the S.A.D.I.S.T. mod (

I don't really agree. If you pick up some shoddy pistol from a farmyard and try to take on a group of bandits, you're bound to get boned. As the game progresses and you have decent condition weapons and armour, this changes. You have to play tactically the whole way. If I ever need to satiate my clinical one bullet, one kill appetite then I bust out Rainbow Six
edit: I would recommend this (
http://www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-complete-2009) if it wasn't for the fact that it makes the game easier

One li'l word: headshots.
Also, keep in mind bullet drop when you aim across long distances.
Vernon on 7/8/2010 at 19:32
Exactly. And a low-quality pistol/rifle is going to have massive spread as well as bullet drop over long distances

No, definitely not, it was on a mountain of some sort. I guess maybe I just mistook Austrian Tibetan mystic bullshit for Russian psychic bullshit- the trailer wasn't very clear on that.
The thing about Stalker is that it's not like other FPS games- you pretty much have to focus on careful tactics, hit and run, sniping from a distance, that sort of thing. You're only worth a shit at playing Audie fucking Murphy when you're walking in with power armor and a couple bandits think they can take you. And even then you need to be careful.

Oh, but it is. The fact that a game could get published with so many bad design decisions really frightens me. :p
