Thanks for all your contributions people :thumb: some good suggestions here, I'm slowly making my way through each one on google images and youtube (you can usually tell from that alone to be fair) I downloaded the Penumbra demo and it looks pretty cool. I'd have to agree with ANTSHODAN when s/he said "scariness is entirely dependent on atmosphere and immersion". It could be a cute little kitten that jumps out at you, but if the atmosphere is right and you're properly immersed in the game it's still bound to frighten the hell out of you lol (now there's a game they should make! :p)
Also, I watched the teaser for Amneisa The Dark Descent and that looks good too, some features I haven't seen before. I used to play SH1 when I was younger and that really got the mix just right if I can remember correctly. SH2 is probably also pretty good but I can't help but think they might have made the 3rd and 4th just because people expected them to and it made money (like the resi series) and not because it was genuinely a good concept but hey I'm just speculating.
That stalker game looks amazing from the stills I saw I may have to invest in that one, especially since you guys seem to like it. So remember if I hate it, it's all your fault ;) Keep 'em coming though if anyone else has any suggestions..?
By the way I was at my brothers house the other day and he was playing that Alan Wake game, anyone else seen that? It looks like it's worth a go although apparently it isn't that long.

I can't believe you haven't heard of Stalker by now. Long-time console gamer?
Law12389 on 8/8/2010 at 02:33
Yea I guess you could say that. I've heard of it, just never really gave it any notice ya know? Now I can see that I probably should have heh.

Vampire: Bloodlines. Only a few levels are scary per se, but the game is so great that it deserves recommendation everywhere anyway.
I'm going to follow this with a ditto.

Ditto on that ditto. Fantastic game.
Depending on your temperament, Bioshock would also certainly qualify. The 2nd one, I think, more so.

Oh, but it is. The fact that a game could get published with so many bad design decisions really frightens me. :p
Ha! Well, it did rather well, well enough to see a sequel. I'm hoping they fix the mechanics for the next outing: 4A might have gotten the engine tech down pat, but they need to focus on wrapping a solid game around that tech.
*adds voice to the chorus* Everybody: you should play VtM: Bloodlines. And if you have, play it again as a Malkavian.

And then as Nosferatu. But don't play as either of those on your first game.

Anyone played Cursed Mountain? I see there's a PC version.
I know it got some reasonable reviews on the Wii but I'm not aware of any PC version.

The Official site has PC DVD listed beside Wii, and wikipedia claims the PC version has been released in Europe February 5th.

Da fug? Mustn't have been released in the UK then, I can't find a PC version listed on any of the usual suspects.
