Sci-fi books and comics that should be made into films. - by SubJeff

So completely subjectively, I wasn't too fond of Ender's Game. It started dragging really quick and, frankly, I saw the ending from about halfway through.
objectively, I don't know enough about the scifi genre to say if the books important or "good" compared to others...

I'm following Terry Gillium on Facebook and he just now updated that he finished shooting
The Zero Theorem this week, so it's on to editing. I'm interested to see Gillium's foray into scifi. Edit: Scratch that, he did 12 Monkeys, didn't he? And Brazil would count as scifi too. Ok, so I'm interested in seeing another foray of his into scifi. I'm interested in seeing a Gillium movie whatever it is.

Qohen Leth (Christoph Waltz) is an eccentric and reclusive computer genius who lives in an Orwellian corporate world and suffers from existential angst. Under the instruction of a shadowy figure known only as "Management" (Matt Damon), Qohen works to solve the "Zero Theorem" - a mathematical formula which will finally determine whether life has any meaning. Qohen's work in the burnt-out chapel that serves as his home is interrupted by visits from Bainsley (Mélanie Thierry), a seductive woman, and Bob (Lucas Hedges), the teenage son of Management.[2]

Oh wow. I read that a couple of years ago. I was expecting shitty genre fiction (kind of hard to find more 'genre' than steampunk and zombies), and was pleasantly surprised to find a pretty good novel underneath the brass goggles and hungry dead. It's an interesting take on the old coming-of-age story.
Not a bad base for a movie by any means.

I think you're confusing something being objectively good and whether or not you like it.
What I mean is that what's "good" is based on rules created by people and what majority sees as "good", and therefore ultimately subjective. Of course, you could say the techniques and colours, composition etc. are based on natural laws and things like the golden ratio, and that makes it objective, but even then it's up to opinion whether "natural" is beautiful or not.
I think I've seen your pocket-lint in a contemporary art exhibition.

I understand what you mean, I just think that at some point subjectivity becomes silly and is just a license to be contrary.
I also think there are objective truths on things that people insist are subjective. My piano playing, for example.
I wouldn't be surprised to see lint in a contemporary art exhibition either. I like the fact that these can exist even if I find many of the exhibits ridiculous.

I understand what you mean
And vice versa. I'm just a bit too keen on objectivity :)

That's because you're a hippy.

That's just your opinion :p

So I burned through The Forever War last week because I just couldn't put the damn thing down.
How is this not a film?
Ah, I see that Ridley Scott is thinking about making it. About time too. Though, as always, I think David Cronenberg should do it because I really want to see him let loose on a big sci-fi film with a massive budget and all the special effects and everything. I also think he'd nail the messed-up-ness in this story with much grace and charm.
