Hi all,
I'm looking for a sci-fi game recommendation. I just recently played (
http://www.ftlgame.com/) FTL which, while considerably lacking in strategic depth, it did have great tactical components that made for some good fun.
In the past I've enjoyed everything from Sentinel Worlds (way back when) to Alpha Centauri. FPS and space simulators are fun, but I'm not looking for those this go-round - something lighter-weight in terms of graphics but heavier in gameplay design. Even though I referred to FTL lacking in strategic depth, I would prefer a tactical sci-fi game over a strategic game right now (although I'll take recommendations for both).
Anyways, if anyone has anything they've played that they absolutely recommend in the sci-fi genre, then this would be the thread to showcase your recommendation :)

I'll never miss a chance to recommend Homeworld to the world at large. You might have played it already. Play it again.

Frozen Synapse! It's so tactical your character's name
is Tactics. (because, it is explained, that's all you're good for) It's dystopian future cyberpunk stuff instead of outerspace stuff tho.

Oh, and the new X-Com is pretty damn good. Surprisingly so, with a decently thought out metagame and everything.

System Shock 1 & 2 + Deus Ex 1 & HR (avoid 2). Bioshock + Dishonored for another 2.

Mileage will vary like a motherfuck, but I have to say that I'm very fond of (
http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/battle-isle-the-andosia-war) Battle Isle: The Andosia War (which is now on GOG). Many didn't like it's ponderous pace, but if you like turn based tactical games, then it is one. Just make sure not to upgrade too fast or build too many units, as it is possible to run out of resources and have to dump hours worth of play and start again (or revert to earlier save).

The Ur-Quan Masters (Star Control 2 remake).

All games are science fiction these days, or sports. Hell even Call of Duty is science fiction now.
