I'm tired of having to use the in-game maps (Shoalsgate has about five of 'em) and would like to print them out for my own use. This of course would require the use of a screen capture utility, as Thief II, alas, does not seem to have that handy screen capture key (was it F12? I can't remember) that was available in TDP. I've checked the manual, FAQ, various websites, and I've searched these forums and can't seem to find the relevant information.
I've tried a couple of downloaded utilities but they don't seem to function from within the game. What do y'all use when capturing screens in T2?

Alt-F10 is the default for taking screenshots, I believe. Look through the bindings and you can see what it is / set it to whatever you like.
The maps are also image files in one of the .crf files, but I can't recall which one offhand.

Screen shots in THIEF end up in your THIEF FOLDER as 000001.(something) I forget the File type. I thing it is a BMP.
It will show up in your file list and they are numbered in order just like a camera dump.

They show up as PCX files but most imaging programs understand this format. (Well, Paintshop Pro does.. :) )
Another method is to use the built-in screenshot mechanism in Windows. Press PrintScrn. Quit Thief. Open an Image application. Paste.
If it works then whatever screen you had will appear.

Well, slap me on the arse with a blackjack. Alt-F10 it is. Funny that it's listed in the key bindings on the Options screen but not in the manual...but then the manual is pretty thin. I can't seem to get it to take more than one shot at a time; evidently it won't store multiple captures as separate shots and assign sequential names. Need to try that again.
BTW, for those who are interested, the maps are indeed located in a crf file, the one named intrface.crf, stored in the Thief2 main folder. I chose to go this route instead. You'll probably need some sort of file viewer, like QuickView, to see and extract them properly.
I now have printed copies of the maps and used them successfully last night to finish out Shoalsgate. Thanks, taffers...y'all are too sneaky for words!

A .crf file is simply a renamed .zip file, therefore the contents can be extracted in the same manner.

Thanks alot! XNVIEW will read almost ANY graphic format. Get it at (
www.pcplus.co.uk) check the dowloads.
Or here: (
http://www.xnview.com/) Allows conversion to nearly any format from any other and minor color and gamma adjustment.
Easy to run and use. Also IRFANVIEW (

Search feature ftw.
So screen shots are easy, but how do you take a T2 screen shot of a map? I know, it's easier to just get the .pcx from the intrface folder, BUT what if you want the 'finished' map with all the rooms filled in, rather than only the bare outline from the original .pcx? Alt+F10 doesn't work, nor does Printscreen.
Didn't think of that one, did ya? :p

Paint shop pro has a screen capture feature which works in dark engine interface screens. I've used it to sample work in progress revised menus before. I am sure it would also work for the automap page.
