I've scoured the forums, re-loaded my nVidia drivers (went back to the older ones, since someone recommended this for nVidia cards), re-installed Thief 2, installed the TafferPatcher, ddfix, etc.
After about 10 minutes into any FM, my screen begins to flash. Then the computer locks up, forcing a hard re-boot. Can't switch to Windows, C-A-D doesn't do anything, zippo. If I hit escape when the flashing starts, then hit Esc again to return to the game, I can play perhaps another 20 seconds before the flashing begins anew. If I completely exit back to Windows and then re-boot into Thief, I have another 10 minutes of play. Very annoying.
This only happens with Thief 2, so it's not a hardware overheat problem. I've also run Thief 2 bare bones--no Enhanced Pack, no ddfix, no nothing. Still locks up.

I doubt this has anything to do with it, but have you checked your hard drive for errors? If there is a bad block that Thief or whatever FM is situated on, that could do it. Computers get cranky when they try to read a bad sector.

I did a deep scan of the drive. No errors. Googling the issue seems to point to a faulty power supply or motherboard. So, it's off to the techie shop. Yee-haw!

Just in case others have the same issue, the problem was traced to a bad power supply. The graphics card couldn't suck enough juice to operate efficiently.
