SDK for Crystal Dynamics Engine is an important thing for the thief community if the fans want modding in Thief 4... and seeing as Deus Ex Human revolution is on the same engine and is closing in on its release, a thread in the official forums is voting on a SDK.

Anyone who cares about Thief 4/Deus 3 modding should do their part and place their vote.
An SDK for the crystal engine will mean great things for both fans, modding would be very limited and/or difficult without it.
I can imagine so much creativity, it will fuel the fan base and bring renewed life to the game long after release. We must show our support, its better then merely assuming that we'll get one, lets prove its popularity! We must Band together.. where going to need one another.

Voted "Yes" here and there. An SDK for T4 is a must.

I thought they were using different engines.

EM has hinted that a different engine would be more appropriate for Thief 4 but the language wasn't very committal...
New pipe-dream:
The newly announced Crytek SDK with "full C++ code support" means that the full Source Code is visible to developers as a move to compete with the growth of Unity and undermine UDK.
EM, knowing that Crytek was planning this SDK market expansion and knowing that fans have clamored for and open SDK has decided to license Crytech.

.
They're not using the Crystal Dynamics engine for Thief 4...that has been pretty much confirmed. Rumor is Unreal.

I'm doubtful. The crytek engine would require a lot of work to be used for Thief. I think you can count on it being Unreal.

Yes, I certainly think CryEngine is a looong shot since the game is already under way.
I think Crytech is trying to increase the ease with which developers utilize their engine. They've made a big point of showing editing videos which highlight the tool-set.
It does also look like the full source code will be there for the eyes of modders:
Quote:
To put the 3rd announcement into perspective, CryENGINE 3 is commonly regarded as the most powerful engine in the market, and fetches an equally high licensing price by the companies that use it which includes game developers, the army, movie studios and more. Furthermore this engine is not a stipped down version with limited access to the source. As Cevet's says "This will be a complete version of our engine,
including C++ code access, our content exporters (including our LiveCreate real-time pipeline), shader code, game sample code from Crysis 2, script samples, new improved Flowgraph and a whole host of great asset examples, which will allow teams to build complete games from scratch for PC."
Maybe Greebo's grandchildren will make a TDM-II on that thing some day :laff:

If they built the game and released it with mod capabilities I for one would pay extra for it. But how much? What if they sold it for $200? They coould make a killing. If it didn't sell they could always drop their price.
