Right. In the Blackmail mission in T2, there's a little alcove in the passage under the house (the way that the Hot Tip suggests you use to get in). It looks like there's a button or hatchway or something in it, and when I go into the alcove it says that I've found a secret, but i cant discover what said secret is.
I've checked a load of Secrets Guides, and cant seem to find any mention of it.
So yeah. What the hells is up with this? Is it a secret or not, and am I just being dense?
Thanks in advance.
Oh, and also, hello, this is my first post!

If it's not mentioned here:
(
http://www.thief-thecircle.com/guides/keeperchapel/Blackmail/secrets.asp) http://www.thief-thecircle.com/guides/keeperchapel/Blackmail/secrets.asp
...then could you provide a screenshot of the switch?:)
In case you or someone reading this might not know, pressing Alt+F10 will take a screenshot, you'll find it in your Thief folder and it will be called "dumpXXX.pcx," where the "XXX" is a number.
Otherwise, I don't know.:erg:

The secret is below you. You will find the rest of it by entering the fireplace in the dining room, and pulling the switch you see there. The Alcove is an alternate entrance to the hidden room(s) you will find. This also connects to another secret area that is a bitch to find, unless you are very observant.
The "trigger" for this second area is really a subtle (and one of the most interesting clues) in the game.

Aye, turns out it was the one of the secrets that i'd heard about in the Secrets Guide (the one that you mentioned Blackman. I was just confused as to why the 'You've Found a Secret' text was triggered when i was just standing on the thing.
Thanks guys!

The "trigger" for this second area is really a subtle (and one of the most interesting clues) in the game. Please elaborate! I've been trying to find the
(Truart's basement) Alcove entrance mechanism trigger for what seems like ages! (Replaying TMA - yet again! - and trying to find obscure secrets I missed the first gazillion times I played thru.)

If you crawl under the porch and into the basement, you find a small alcove on the left. If you enter it the "Found secret" appears. Unfortunately, you can't access it from there.
But if you go upstairs you will find a fireplace in the dining room. If you step inside you find a switch. If you use it you will drop into a hidden room in the basement and find a few goodies and the answer to another mystery.
If you take the body of Truart out of the house and through the garden and back along the wall to the hole in front, on the left is a low bluff. Climb it and you find a open grave. Drop the body and another "Found secret" appears.
If you go into the chapel you will see a broadhead on the wall. There is a HAMMER emblem (statue) against the same wall. High on the wall to the left of the Hammer is a KEYHOLE shaped hole.
Fire a broadhead through that hole. Another secret and more loot is available.
Regarding the Cemetary:
When you start the game work your way to the right across the houses and the walls. In the shrubbery at the base of the main wall of the grounds you will find a hole. Enter the hole and make your way to the mansion. As you do you will pass a stony low bluff on your right. Climb up and you find the cemetary. That's where you put the body of Truart.

That is the reason you very carefully examine every inch of every room or area you enter in the game.
There are little goodies like that scattered through out the missions.
Don't try to beat the game. If you do you will beat yourself. Take your time and climb everything you can. Rope arrow to the top of every beam. LOOK UP often.
Scan closely every book you find. Read every one that opens, read every scroll or note. The game is full of clues and hints.
The designers loved to hide things UP and in the rafters.
For example:
In the keepers room at the Cathedral mission, there is some stuff up in the rafters. There also are chests and other loot in the upper areas of some of the rooms of the ruins.
At the canal in TDP where you first find the Burrick patroling, up the staircase near the canal (right side as you face it) is a room with goodies.
To the left up the ramp just before you get to the burrick, there is a room around the corner to the right with loot up in the rafters. You can also climb into the tower there where you see the light in the upper window. These are a few more examples of what is in TDP. All the missions in TDP/GOLD and TMA have these little surprises.
Slow down, check every inch and have a ball.
