Once again it's up to me to make a thread about actual videogame made by a video game company as opposed to Bob's Physics Puzzle Platformer 45922 or Steven's Turret Defense With Zombies 8641^E.
The name is Section 8, the company is FuckYeahNotValve, and the platform is PC. Well you will also be able to buy it for PS3 and 360, if you fancy an expensive cup holder. Since it's an FPS. I hear they won't even put the actual game on the console release, just a blank DVD with a picture. That's actually pretty clever of them.
Other than enough triangles to fill up the Grand Kanyon if each triangle was a dead kitten and guns so needlessly complicated you can barely figure out which end goes where, main feature of S8 will be dropping people from space. There are no fixed spawn points on the map, you pick one yourself and spawn really high over it and then fall down. The process is entirely interactive("Best Fall Ever." - Eurogamer), so you can look around, change your trajectory a bit, and get your head blown off. Same goes for the armour - if you need a tank, just order one and they deliver it to you like a cheap pizza.
Another interesting thing is the jetpack. It's, well, a fucking jetpack, but it made people in various places flail their arms and scream "Tribes!" over and over like madmen, which is weird because I thought everyone who played Tribes already died of old age. Or got married.
Finally, you will be given random quests during the match, and true to all random quests they come in many varietes of KILL X or DEFEND X. I predict doing them will earn you points.

judging from gameplay from beta, all I can say: well, at least they stole from the good games but their interpretation of the mechanics is very ....... basic
it's ok.....I'd rather go with the next Bob's Physics Development Kit for minors featuring more creativity, artistic vision and integrity than all of the FPS of the last 5 years combined.
if you wanna play a basic sci-fi FPS online with a few gadgets: get the NEOTOKYO mod for hl2, it's free and has a learning curve of Zero if you played FPS or CounterStrike before. not my cup of tea but certainly no creative physics puzzler.

Right now I don't give a skydiving shit about this game, but if they make it so that you can drop tanks from orbit on people, that may change. Also, opening post was an entertaining write-up, do more.

At the end of the day it's essentially anime Counter-Strike, fuck that. Counter-Strike is the worst game conceived by man ever.

Anime counter-strike? Shit I think it will be bigger than Sims.

i would not call their style anime. they worked 4 years on the mod, now it's out and gameplay is 5 years old ..... I'm disappointed but it already got its share of fanboys. it's very pretty but not much more. for most people that is enough. rounds are short so it's a good coffee break filler. I'd rather go with RTCW or W:ET gameplay than roundbased spawns and 5 mildly different assaultrifles.
section8 has more to offer, that was my point, but it's a commercial product and struggles to be ahead of free games (dystopia, tribes, w:et) so I don't think I will get hyped although this should be my dream game.

It is greatly influenced by our admiration for Masamune Shirow (GHOST IN THE SHELL) and Katsuhiro Otomo (AKIRA)Yup, definitely no connection to anime.

I Think this basic concept has been discussed many times on this forum.
Inspired by Anime != Anime

can't hurt to repeat it it seems:
inspired by anime != anime

Inspiration vs. actuality aside, having seen Ghost in the Shell and having heard wonderful things about Akira, I'd want to try this after reading that statement.
