There was 33% off for existing owners before release.

I too was hoping for a loyalty discount (a permanent one a la Deus Ex HR:DC would have been nice). I paid full price for the original, so I won't feel too bad waiting for this to hit the Steam sales. I want to reward them for their awesome work, but €15 for a fresh coat of paint on a game I've already put >200 hours into disagrees with my thresholds.

Oh, for pre-order customers only? God forbid people get to see reviews before purchasing, amirite? Not even AAA publishers are that shitty see above example of Square Enix with DX:HR DC and Sleeping Dogs DE. Scrooge McMillen still stands.

Interesting - I don't get a discount listed for me for Deus Ex HR: DC even though I have the original game.
I agree it would be good to get an ongoing discount for existing customers. I suspect a large reason that's not the case is because most of the development work was done by Nicalis although I'm sure that Edmund McMillen takes his cut.
Personally I'd played enough of the original and seen enough of the remake to know that it was a pretty safe bet to pre-order and I've not been disappointed. It's a huge remake with lots of extra content and not just a "re-skin". It looks like you've played about 10 minutes of the original (according to steam) so I can understand you wanting to be more certain before buying a game that you're only going to have a limited amount of enjoyment from.

As I understand it, on top of the completely new game engine, new art, new music, etc, Rebirth includes a comparable amount of new game content to the WOTL expansion. So it's rather more than just a fresh coat of paint.
And heck, if you enjoy it enough to sink 200+ hours into the game, it sounds like excellent value for money.
Not that I'm suggesting that you must buy it; it's just that, to me, it sounds like it would be worth it. OTOH if it's more that you're kinda over it at this point... well, I'd probably wait for a sale too in that case.

Well that changes things then. I should have done the research myself, but if there's new content then I think I'd be willing to jump on when it hits €10.
The 200+ hours statement was more because I'm not sure I'd play it that much again. It was my primary game while I was working in a placement for 6 months with only a shitty laptop.

Hahaha this fucking game. Rebirth is one of the PS+ games this month, just gave it a whirl. I'd forgotten how fucked up that intro is. :D
Anyway, made it to the second boss. I never really bothered sticking with it when I played the PC version, might give it more of a chance this time, seeing how high it is in a lot of people's most played games lists.

I can understand why people don't stick with it - essentially it's a very simple game concept. The sheer lunacy of items, their combinations (particularly so in rebirth) and dark sense of humour is what keeps it fresh for me. Rebirth is perhaps a little too easy on normal mode if you've played through the original but otherwise I'm really enjoying it. I tried some co-op multiplayer with my boss (wife) yesterday and had a blast.

Saw this for €10 on gamesdeal.com and snapped it up. So far I'm liking it a lot. I've completed it once (first iteration of "completed") and reached the second end game boss once also, but couldn't beat that yet. Loving the new items and enemies and the big rooms are awesome. The graphics are fine, despite what some are saying, the music is not as good as the original though - would love to know if there is some way to put the old music back in.

I killed Satan for the first time (in Rebirth) today. Liking it a lot - I've even warmed to the new music. Don't miss old Isaac at all.
