Thinking back on all the crazy missions of Garret I have to wonder, what kind of person would actually go into some of the places Garret has. Haunted Cathderal, the mines, Inverted Manse and most especially that messed up cradle. (He did that one for free) I dont know if I personally could venture into those areas without a very big incentive. Any thoughts?

SPOILERS!!
Personally, I believe Garrett is almost fearless. I think this is due to the fact that he believes he is always in control. He can do anything to anyone, or so he thinks. Virtually any situation he enters, he is sure that he can handle it just fine, and come out on top. I was very creeped out that he actually sounded mildly scared going into The Cradle... especially the line about the house having "bad dreams". Brrrr... Even he was intimidated. The only time I think he was truly scared however was with Viktoria and the Trickster. This was because he was no longer in control, and this frightened him.
So, to answer your question, I believe he isn't worried about threats of the world, because he is so arrogant and sure of his own skills that he doesn't think any threat could possibly be beyond his own abilities. Zombies, monsters, humans, robots, or just clever traps, it doesn't matter, he is sure he can handle it.
His skills are super-human, even by Keeper standards, but I think he believes himself even better than he really is (which is quite a lot).
Hmmm, but then again, he DID survive all those situations, so maybe he is exactly right about how good his skills are...

He seems to me like one of those rare people that actually IS in control of all his situations. Even when Viktoria and Constantine betrayed him and took his eye he basically just picks himself up, dusts himself off and says "well. . .how can I fix this. ." . .and soon it's all back in his hands again. :thumb:

This is true, but there is no doubt that in the specific instance of the Trickster and Viktoria, it is solely due to the Keepers that he escaped that hopless situation. With blood-sucking vines trapping him on the floor, he would be certainly dead if they hadn't intervened. One of the few moments in the entire series that Garrett's talents alone were NOT enough to save him...
Then again, I think we can give Garrett this credit:
A. He was dealing with a God, after all.
B. Even so, he still ended up teaching that God a lesson.

Yeah. . and he wouldn't have been able to get rid of Karras without Viktoria.

at least in thief you are sure that there is another life after death and you don't fear.
Brother Uriel on 4/12/2005 at 23:05
Which life after death would you be referring to?
The Save/Load function? :D
Bulgarian_Taffer on 4/12/2005 at 23:06
No, Zombies/Haunts.
Do you want to be a zombie. A creepy zombie... Arrrrghhhh!
Brother Uriel on 4/12/2005 at 23:16
He he, yeah, I don't think that the undead count as an "afterlife" in Thief. I don't think Haunts and Zombies are at all sentient, so that doesn't count... that leaves ghosts. However, I don't think that's much to look forward to - all of the ghosts in Thief seem to have some sort of tortured existence. They pretty much appear to exist either just to suffer and inflict suffering (like the enemy type) or fulfill some goal that wasn't accomplished, which means all they will spend their time doing is agonizing about how to do something that they will probably never do... or, like the "broken record" kind of ghost, that we saw in Trail of Blood, which doesn't really seem sentient either. Not thinking, just repeating the same tragic events before their death/immediately after over and over again...
I like your comment about being a creepy zombie... I could definitely see not being afraid of death if your dream is to become a zombie!

How about being 0ne of those cradle puppets? I bet that would be an awesome afterlife? (Sarcasm) And I agree, I was terrified at the cradle from the getgo because even Garret sounded afraid. That bad dreams line was classic, enough to send shivers down your spine. Going through the Thief series, I went into Deadly shadows thinking I'd seen it all and could deal with it all...guess I was wrong, that level still leaves me with a bad feeling
