Especially considering that almost every news piece related to the PS3 recently has highlighted Sony's planned 10 year life span for the console.

Serious Sam is one game I do not want to play with a gamepad. With slower paced shooters I have less of a problem with it, but this one I'd never buy for a console.

*cough*
Dude, no one is forcing you to buy the console version.

I know, I'm just saying I wouldn't buy it for a console. But it's good that it's there for the people who don't mind playing it with a gamepad or don't have a capable PC. I bet it will be harder to complete than with mouse&keyboard though, and Serious Sam is already a pretty tough game.

Be happy that you've got a blu-ray player, because movies are the only new releases that will be playable on that that thing in 1-2 years time.
That is simply not true. So the xbox360nis better fine, give it a hug.

Yeah, it was even mentioned in the news once again today by a SCEE exec.

PC Classic Serious Sam HD to be Released by cdv this Autumn
cdv Software Entertainment AG is working with Croteam and Devolver Digital to bring Serious Sam HD for PC to retail and digital download in all worldwide territories excluding Russia.
Originally released in 2001, Serious Sam won numerous accolades including Game of the Year on Gamespot and Editor's Choice on IGN. Developed on Croteam's proprietary Serious Engine 3; Serious Sam HD stays true to the source material, as our hero takes on Lord Mental's forces across a variety of battlegrounds set in various ancient civilisations. The gameplay remains as intense as ever and the humour intact, all this in glorious high definition!
Roman Ribaric, CEO of Croteam said "We have been really excited to see Sam being recreated in stunning high definition and to have the opportunity to truly update our hero. The fans of Sam have never gone away and have been lobbying us hard to do this, so we are really excited to be able to confirm that Sam will be back as big, bold and bad as he ever was and we are really stoked about introducing Sam to new gamers as well as his loyal fans."
Arne Peters, COO of cdv Software Entertainment AG commented, "cdv are very excited to be involved in bringing Serious Sam HD to market. The game has an outstanding heritage and is still talked about today in reverential terms. Therefore, this HD version of a classic can only be great news for PC gamers everywhere."

Considering the original Serious Sams on the PC could run on resolutions well past 'HD', the title's a goddamn misnomer.
The PC VERSION!!! news is nice and all, but no one's talking about whether the PC VERSION!!! will take advantage of being able to have more/higher resolution assets than the X360 version. I'd be seriously disappointed if Croteam gimped the PC game to run identically to what's coming to the X360. They were always one of those devs intent on pushing PC hardware of the time to its limits, like Crytek and id.

We know, hence my use of "air quotes".

I strongly doubt that an East European developer (with a strong PC-based background) would deliver an unoptimised PC version, so I would've thought that most people presume that support for AA, AF, 1920x1200, 1680x1050, 1440x900, etc. are a given.
Best not to be presumptuous and optimistic though, ie Left 4 Dead 2 announcement.
