Question: Are there any remaining technical problems with the HD remakes? I seem to recall the multiplayer was a bit broken when TFE came out, but I'm guessing that lots of patching has happened since then.
The game has been significantly patched. I didn't notice any problems when I played TFE HD about a month ago.
P.S. I'm surprised that you're interested in SSHD, considering your dislike of DRM. You realise that every PC copy of the HD remakes use Steamworks?

I have to say that the cutscenes in TFE were awfully dull, so I can't pretend that this would affect my interest in the remakes, but it's certainly a curious omission.
I'd not cry a river if they never added the intro, I do have the original game. But it still leaves an empty void in the HD remake, and is actually pretty cool and fun to watch (in my opinion of course); the music, seeing mighty UghZan get blasted by the spaceship's massive energy cannon thingy and fall to his death, and of course the cratebus scene. It would be all the better to see it more high definitionier than ever before. :p

Yeah, I was pretty gutted about that, and I've left them alone thus far for that reason. I do have games on Steam though (although I haven't bought anything from them in a long time), and I sometimes play co-op games through the service, so SSHD is still on my radar.

Croteam did say that they have a compile of the game without Steam, leaderboards, etc. Maybe they will use it later for a GOG release some years down the road... I can dream.

Nice to know that they've at least allowed for the possibility of other distributors. Perhaps after sales have more or less dried up, they'll try pushing it elsewhere.
