Thanks for the reply smithpd.
Not sure what you mean about 'repeatable behaviour', but the crash happens every time I drop the heart into the font. I had the game saved just before entering the room, with 2 hearts. The crash always happens with scarlet, never violet.
I have restarted my machine, loaded the game, gone for a walk, attacked another guard, picked some loot up and come back again - same crash.
I can drop the heart anywhere but the right place and it is OK. Both sisters were KO'd not killed.
Looks like I'm going to have to play the last half hour again......
OK, replayed - this time OK. The only thing I did differently was last time I
opened the cellar with the ship's wheel
and this time I haven't done it yet.

The different action should have no effect. Somehow in your first run through, you picked up a "hiccup" in your system.
None of the testers had any problem with the Hearts (other than stupid attempts to do away with them), and the different computer setups that were used varied from a W98 low power (one of mine - I used three systems to try it on-), unit to a couple of really current high powered rigs.
I guess you just got lucky.
Glad it worked out with the replay.
On to N3 and the real fun. :)

I agree with this. I think the likely culprit is that at some point in a series of saves and loads, some time after the last slot save (1 hour previously), corruption was introduced into the quick save file. The corruption evidently persists because some state of the game is contained in the bad file. Going back to the last slot save, before the corruption was introduced, rather than any particular action, is probably what cured it. This corruption of save files is rare, but it occurs often enough that many of us have seen it before.

OK guys,
Now I've got the same problem as some others - the Ophelia objective won't tick.
I got her to follow me as a zombie, then cured her in the brothel hall - she ran to the bar. Then I put Robert's book on the right bed.
, but no tick off.
Great mission tho....

I think she needs to be started at Giles and go "home" after being cured.
Leading her around while still ill, may not trigger the objective. And are you certain it is the correct room that you entered with the message?

Sorry, she was supposed to be cured at Giles.
The only thing you can do is
blackjack her and drop her in the corridor when you enter the brothel.
Funny thing Ophelia has one of those golden plaques right outside her bedroom door, stating its her room. If only people would stop and read it. :p ;) Last bedroom on the right is her bedroom.

That's funny, when I was victim gathering to see how many water arrows/holy water vials a person needed, Ophelia wound up cured at the police station. Once I approached her, she fled properly, and the objective completed properly, so I don't know if her being cured in the wrong location is the problem.
Nameless Voice on 4/1/2008 at 22:35
I cured her outside the Mayor's house, though the objective didn't tick off the first time, though maybe I didn't wait for long enough as I lost sight of her.
I reloaded and it worked fine.
Lady Rowena on 4/1/2008 at 22:49
There should be no problem if you cure her outside the brothel and then she run inside, the problem is if you cure her inside, because the trigger of her returning home is in the entrance corridor.
