Gloria is right, that's the only way.
Strange that you can't shoot the rope arrow, maybe it's a little difficult, but I didn't mean to make it impossible. I don't remember that anyone complained about it.
By any chance, are you using the new Thief version 1.19?
you should be able to finish the mission anyway, you will omly miss two optional objectives in that area.

I just tried it with both 1.18 and the new patch and could do it either way. If you're having trouble, you could try installing the new patch, if you haven't already and implementing the new and improved mantling. It might help. Or another option would be to email me and I'll send you a save game after getting onto the barrel. Or send me YOUR savegame and I can see if I can get onto it for you then send it back.

I've gotten on to it several times now, however once I'm on the top of it and try and shoot a rope arrow, the barrel starts sinking, not giving me enough time to get an accurate shot off. The barrel will then float to the surface and I'll try again, and after 3 or 4 times repeating this, the barrel disappears completely leaving me no choice but to re-load.
I'm not sure how to install the new patch, but I'll keep at it.

I have never tried the barrel. I shoot an arrow from the bank into the beam near the window. I think there was a ledge across the canal that I used.
From the tunnel, I could also shoot an arrow above the window. Then a jump into the canal and up the rope. My system is in storage at the moment so I can't replay, but I'm sure that was how I used to get into Giles.

So I just encountered something that might be a bug with the baby burrick Pinky.
I knocked out all the guards who were in the way, opened all the doors and gates, and waited for the little burrick to move back to his owner. But he doesn't move at all, he just sits in his stable. I returned to his owner, and even though the burrick was still sitting in the stable, she gave me the money and said "thank you, kind stranger".
Might this be a NewDark-related bug?

Could someone confirm that this obvious hidden door (circled in red) is the one leading to Dr. Knox from Night 1 and can't be openend on the second night?
If not could you give me a hint on how to open it?

Hello taffers. I'm stuck at night 2 with 2 objectives left (find and neutralize the sister bound to air, find and neutralize the 2 sisters bound to fire) but no idea what to do, there is a door in the brothel that is locked (Brunhilde door) but I don't have the key and can't find it anywhere, where is it? the map looks entirely cleared and I'm just running in circles.

Have you found the 3 coloured gem hearts? (white, purple and red). You need to drop them in the fonts in the font room below the Hammerite compound. In this mission accessed via the garden off from the Cathedral grounds.
IIRC you can't get into Brunhilde room until you have destroyed the hearts.
