Go into the Burrick. Go into the fireplace. Go up the ladder. Rope into the attic. Get the goodies.
Come back down into the hall. Turn left. Enter last door on the right. Go to bookcase/shelves at door to balcony. READ BOOK. Take book. Give to Ophelia.

There.....where? What book have you? All the readables that you can pick up and go inyour inventory have names. The book is not hidden.

I agree that it is very tricky and doesn't make sense architecturally. I am not aware of

Why taking the ladder up there made no sense at all?
I don't think that it was the first time that you went
up a ladder in a chimney in Thief.....what's the problem then? It's too difficult turn around a building to see if there is another possible way in?

GET CLOSER TO THE BOOK. Some of the items in the mission need you to put your nose right on them. Crouch, standup, look up, look down, move a little right and left.
It is there, it can be had, and it just takes a little effort on your part. Many of the things do not FROB from across the room. You need to be right on top of them.
Try walking through your inventory one item at a time. You might already have it. :p

This is strange! Ophelia
was meant to return the brothel by herself
, but a tester reported that he
KO her, and trasported her unconscious body into the brothel and the objective worked anyway.
Try
dropping her body in the halloway as soon as you enter the brothel.
Right I got it to work. I think the trigger to check for
Ophelia's return was placed in the hallway.
You see what i did was, was to return to the brothel via the
other way, behind the power generator and up the ladder to Roxane's balcony and then from there to Ophelia's room to deposit her on her bed.I went back and took her
unconscious body down to the hallway and it checked off finallyThanks for the help guys! and sorry about my rant earlier, just been playing too long and got a bit frustrated after carrying her back all that way (right to her bed as well!) and got no gratitude. :cheeky:

This wasn't one of "those" items, you can frob this one from a normal, default distance. ;)

Not to burst the bubble, but until recently when mansions and other large establishments had large fireplace, it was very common to have a ladder in the chimney to assist in cleaning it.
I've climbed a few myself in my younger days working in large pre 1900 mansions where I once lived.
to be sure, they did not serve as access to other floors routinely, but did on occasion, access fireplaces a floor or two above that shared a common chimney. :ebil:

South end of Desolation Row, I mantled over a wall into a small yard with a tree,
frogbeast egg, and a basement with holy water.
But now I can't make the mantle out over the wall.
So, uhh... what's the proper way out? Or am I stuck?

I did not say "at all". I said that it made no sense
architecturally because in real life you do not find ladders inside chimneys, so far as I know. I went on to imply that Thief does not have to make sense. I understand that chimney ladders are common in Thief. It is all right, Lady Rowena. It is a very good puzzle. Not obvious, though. ;)
EDIT. Well, tBm has corrected me, and I assume he is right. I have just never seen it. In Europe you commonly find chimney pots that would be too small to crawl through. The damper mechanism, if any, must be a problem. :)
