Which portal? The one in the Black ladies crypts? Give us the details of what you did before you went through, and the last room you were in.
You need, or should have another key stone to use. If you are at
the lake you missed something you need. Go back to that area and search some more.

You should have had about 9 going in. However,
check each corridor. The balls can be avoided. Enter a corridor AFTER THE BALL PASSES. Then run down the corridor looking DOWN. There are some on the floor. When you hear the ball coming duck into one of the doorways. If you don't "kill" it, then keep going until you find an arrow. Wait for it to come by and do it in.

Yes there is. But it is no secret. You have the information in your inventory. Remember. READ EVERYTHING, at least twice, and THINK.
Just an idle comment. This mission is excellent, and it definitely seperates the casual player from the true Garrett thinking thieves.
