Now, it is actually quite a bit of fun, and worth the $15 or so, at least so far. But it's a live arcade title for a reason, and it's not likely to go down in the hall of fame like Metroid or SotN.
Eh. The above criticisms don't really reflect my experience with the game. I'm loving every minute of it, and between reviews and other forum posts elsewhere, everyone seems to be going ape shoe over it. This is probably the most nitpicky impression I've so far read. Hope you feel it was worth it for you in the end.
The consensus with Super Metroid and Castlevania: SotN is that both are considered to be top 10 games for their respective consoles. I do feel it's safe to say that Shadow Complex will definitely be considered among the top 10 best games available for Xbox Live Arcade.

Games of this sort aren't all that common, so fans tend to become very enthusiastic when one comes out. If I didn't dislike the control scheme so much, I'm sure I'd be with them. All the same though, I imagine the wooziness will fade after the newness wears off.

Well, it's tons more inspired than those endlessly cranked out handheld exploration-based Castlevania games. A lot of critics and fans who've beaten it are claiming that they're instantly hopping right back in for seconds, so it may have some staying power.

I'm far less inclined to give a rats ass about inspiration as I am to execution.
As I said, it's far from a bad game, but it's just not gripping me the way Aria of Sorrow or even Portrait of Ruin did, to say nothing of Symphony or Metroid.

Well thats the first game to make me want to go get a Xbox. I love Metroid and I love SoTN. So I really liked the video for that game.

I may be the only person who stopped loving SotN after you got to the inverted castle. Playing in an upside down castle is fun for about 5 minutes before the novelty wears off and you realize they just mirrored the whole thing to avoid having to make new areas.

You're hardly alone there. Pretty much everyone thinks SotN went downhill rapidly in the inverse castle.
As for shadow complex, the last 2 hours I've played was abso-fucking-loutely loaded with death traps.
I'm now regretting spending the $15. Great old games mixed with modern sensibilities my ass.

Where? I mean, honestly, the game's been pretty easy for me so far -- boss fights, in particular.
I just got the combat armor that allows me to do the ground pound -- how much farther are you?

That's exactly where I am. I'm to assume you didn't once by mistake fall into the ovens in the factory, and die instantly? Or the electrified water, for that matter?
Yeah, the boss fights have been quite easy. It's the levels themselves that are aggravating me. I've got like 500 health, and one burst from a single guy can take 100 points.
