Yeah, I probably died once a pop on those two parts -- and on one of those it was because I wasn't paying attention. Heh.
I played through the original Ninja Gaiden kind of recently, so maybe I'm still kind of in that state of "sidescroller twitch reflex zen" that NG forces you to be in.

Well, as long as there aren't any goddamned bats, I suppose there's still stuff to like about this game.

Well, I beat it. Which is quite surprising. I'm gonna spoiler this, though it won't be any plot spoilers, just a warning for the end game if you want to explore everything before the finale. The last section you're supposed to collect 4 last parts of your suit. If you follow the arrows, you get 3 of them, then go directly to the finale. So do your exploring before going for that 4th part.
Certainly took some interesting turns. I had been taking bucketloads of damage from random enemies, but then in the space of like 20 minutes I found 5 of the 10 armor pickups, which drastically increased survivability, considering I only had 1 before then.
Kind of annoying, really. The game takes a turn in a direction I actually like, and it's over an hour later.
Still, with all said and done I don't feel ripped off. Could've been a lot better, but it's still pretty good.

The difficulty is very variable, it rewards you for going out of your way to find all the health and armor pickups.
That said, of the games I've played in 2009, I'd have to say that shadow complex is probably the best one so far, and definitely the best one on 360. Killzone 2 is pretty close IMHO, because the controls have enough weight to them to make the combat feel much more like handling a real military weapon does than any other recent, mainstream FPS game( aiming in game takes about as long as it does for me to engage a target with a real m16 and with similiar accuracy). Infamous runs a third, due to the tedium associated with travel between missions.
My biggest praise for the game is the exploration element, coupled with excellent (movement, not shooting) controls. Exploring the complex was fun, and moving from one objective to another never stopped being an adventure. Its even more fun once you get the double and triple jump, and acessories like foam and the grapple only make it more fun.
Has anyone else tried using foam to make your own pathways?
