Thats good news. Thanks EO. What did you mean when you asked me if i "have some better quality source material where the scrolling text is actually visible" . I made the avi using Flash5. Mabie you could talk to epithumia about uploading them somewhere.

Sperry: Regarding the better source material, i could also just have asked what you used to make the avi files. The idea being that if you had used something i knew maybe we could have worked out someway to get better quality video than my current conversion. Unfortunately i am not at all familiar with Flash so that idea didn't fly.
Epithumia: Just tell me how and i will upload the converted video files to you.

You can upload things to me via anonymous FTP at ftp.math.uh.edu in /pub/incoming/thief. If asked for a user name, enter "ftp" and anything you want for the password.

yeah thief uses a very specific ligos video codec. thats why we always have to reinstall it and sometimes thief doesnt play movies.
My hypothesis is that the people are crashing because of the codecs. and that the only people who CAN play the mission as of now are the poeple who have yet to reinstall the codec, so their videos would not play by default, so it doesnt crash.
if you just encode the video with AVI, or worse, divx, i dont know what will happen... but i imagine it wont work. This may be your porblem
what he means by high quality source is the original movie file, high quality. The file in the zip file is apparently compressed or encoded at low quality maybe. He wants you to send him the original, master version with high quality. then he can compress it into the best qulality and encode it in logos format, and add it to the archive
i can also do basic ligos encoding i think, so let me know if u still need help

I pulled down the briefings that The Elusive One uploaded and overwrote the ones in the campaign zipfile; everything plays fine now although as previously mentioned the quality is poor.
I'll leave it up to Sperry: I'll either replace the briefings in the zipfile and put the campaign up, or I'll wait for you folks to work out some higher quality briefings.

Sperry: I've gotten hold of a copy of Flash 5 from work, so if you're interested i'd be willing to experiment and see if i can get some better results (gives me something to do while i'm on vacation :) ). If the flash source files aren't to large you can just email them to me. If they are big maybe epithumia can help us?

well after downloading the campaign from cheap thief and finding out it wouldnt work for me, so i decided to get each individually without the briefings, maybe when someone puts it up without missing something sure i will try again.
great job sperry, the ambient background noise, is such a scary thing in the sewers in walking on the edge, dang coulda swore there was a spider lirking about in the shadows. only problem i have had so far is its hard to hear when picking locks, and some locks take forever, gee. Keep up the excellent work, coulda used a few more AI's in fool level though. lol.

I have fixed briefings and I just need to reassemble things and put them in the archive. Time has been short for the past couple of days but hopefully I'll have it up this evening.
