I've added this one to the Keep as well, but I can't play this one myself. All the other four work for me in WMV (I have a ton of codecs installed for it too), just not this last one.
How are you encoding these, as many people have had trouble?
pavlovscat on 27/6/2008 at 23:43
I'm using WinAmp v5.531 and haven't had any problems.

Realplayer does not like the last one for me. I've listened to the first four so far. They're really good and Thiefy at that. Thanks!

Cool Edit Pro? That's before this thing was bought by Adobe, isn't it? The Child of Karras always complains about (the quality of) Adobe Audition's mp3 codec; not sure if this has something to do with the problems which some guys have around here. :erg:
By the way, played them all in WinAmp, too, and had no trouble at all. Really good stuff. A rooftops track would be interesting. Since the CoK is still somehow ambitious to make the Metal Age Soundtrack, I already thought about LotP which is so big but features afaik no useful music except maybe for Angelwatch itself. So I already thought about making a little rooftop theme for this part, especially since we added custom material in the Thief Gold Soundtrack and no one complained. :p

Pad sounds should work. Pad sounds always work. Well, you know what I mean. :p I would like to do such a eletronical action-progress-movie-drumloop-thingy (the "let's get it started" kind of theme) if it wasn't so out-of-the-mill. :erg:

Nice music, ShadowSneaker. The Crypt theme is my favourite among those four. All of them went into my collection right away.
Thank you for creating this!
By the way... mp3check, a MP3 file checking program for Linux, displays the following for these MP3 files:
ShadowSneaker-Crypts.mp3:
69 bytes of junk before first frame header
(and the same for MechanistMassacre and MidnightWhisperedMyName)
ShadowSneaker-TwilightTrickster.mp3:
valid id3 tag trailer v1.0 found
Even the last message seems to be an error message. On the other hand, this program detects problems in almost every MP3 and MP2 file I have, but I can play those files from within Windows and Linux. But maybe the programs used by the other people here are more picky and don't like those MP3 files. Maybe opening the MP3 files in a sound editor and then saving them as MP3 file again could correct the problem.

No problems with the playback of these files with DeliPlayer 2. Good compositions by the way. I'd like to hear those in fan missions.

Thanks, <Username>.
I'd forgotten about Deliplayer. Have to DL that again.

Hey baeuchlein, I'm not really savvy when it comes to such things, so does "69 bytes of junk before first frame header" mean it has a load of weird unnecessary crap encoded into it, or something?
Well, 69 bytes are not much, so it's just a small bit of trash encoded into the file. The important question is: Is
that the reason for the problems with this file, or is it something not reported by mp3check?
I have a similar issue with some graphics files I create when scanning images. If I save them with a Windows program, a Linux program complains about errors in the graphics files, but can display and even save them. Looks like the Windows program saves the graphics in a file not completely following some standard.
So, maybe these 69 bytes are no real problem. Perhaps it's just mp3check seeing that these MP3 files do not completely follow some standard.

I have been exporting them from FL Studio into Cool Edit usually just to boost the volume but sometimes I fade in/out the tracks in there also. I then convert them to mp3 in Cool Edit. I could try doing everything in FL. It might not use that weird codec that WMP seems to lack.
That's one possible solution. Convert them, then send them to those who had problems when playing the files. If the problems are gone with the new version, you can avoid these issues when publishing other sounds. And if the problems persist, these might be related to the programs other people use to play these sounds.

Thanks, I will try converting them again.
