Interesting that this thread comes up on, as I'm trying to get the original Shenmue working in a Dreamcast emulator.
...I can't get the damn thing to load my savegames.

Well, that's some goofy fucking faces innit. Is that what passes for nostalgia?

Guess we'll just have to settle for bad models and animation.
I never played Shenmue 1 and 2. Have they aged well enough to play now?

Other than the goofy pre-dual analog controls (and the fact I CAN'T SAVE), the first game at least seem to have aged pretty well.

That trailer, Jesus. I don't mind if the graphics aren't "SUPER 4K HD NEXT GEN", but at least animate the faces. It makes Mass Effect Andromeda look like LA Noire.

I think that's something they're doing on purpose to make it fit in better alongside the 1st and 2nd game.
It's a stylistic choice that might end up biting them in the ass.

Dear god those models are just horribly uncany (those soulless eyes and claybodies) and the training scene has no weight to it. Environments look alright.
Stabilization or not, this seems a bit disappointing for such a high profile released marred with some past extra publisher funding controversy. But I'm no Shenmue fan so what do I know :p

YES!

WWG can now share that we’ve heard rumors from multiple sources linked with SEGA, claiming Shenmue 1 & 2 HD are real and are expected to release in the not-so-distant future.
Our sources have claimed that the project has been in the works since 2016, and was originally scheduled to be announced some time around E3 2017 in June, but was held back for unknown reasons. It is possible this was done to find a more appropriate venue where it wouldn’t have to share the spotlight with so many big, new games, but that’s just one writer’s speculation.
As you would imagine, it is supposedly a collection of both original Shenmue games remastered in HD. It’s rumored to be coming to Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Whether or not the games will also arrive on Nintendo Switch is not something we are able to rule out definitively, but given the timing and lack of information about a Switch version, it seems unlikely (at least for now).

Recent rumors indicate that the HD remasters are currently still planned to release in 2017, but that goes without confirmation from SEGA itself and possibly could be shifted given that its reveal allegedly was, too.
