Creator / Main programmer of GZdoom pulled the plug over a programmer hissyfit:
read thread:
(
http://www.doomworld.com/vb/wads-mods/50624-fastest-opengl-source-port-engine-for-wads/)
I didn't know anything about the politics behind this.. i didn't even know that there were doom engine source ports other than zdoom gzdoom and skulltag. makes me sad because I've been using GZdoom for awhile and I really like it. i was just about to download the newest version to see if I could get it working in wine. and found the link on the main page.
I guess he pulled everything. deleted everything online that he had access to. and promptly disappeared. I guess he has a right to do whatever he wants, he doesn't owe anybody anything. But it sucks. I love gzdoom.

He was always a bitching little shit. He made a great upgrade to ZDoom, but he always had some problem with someone. Apparently he considered it a personal offense that Randy, the creator of ZDoom, wouldn't team up with him to crowbar in all of GZDoom's changes and make Graf the decider of what gets changed and added in the releases.
If only we could have the talent without the person....
[EDIT] It seems like the source is intact on other people's machines, so maintenance of GZDoom will in all likelihood go on. Graf has quit the project indefinitely.

hooray for the GPL.
I guess there's no harn in trying out some other source ports I hadn't heard about before as well.

It's still available from Sauceforge.

This reminds me of the time that big primadonna who authored D2X-Rebirth ragequit because nobody was sending him Paypal donations, but he didn't pull his whole site.
Similarly that big 13-year-old Tessmage, of Oblivion porn skin and Bloodlines TRUE PATCH fame, pulled down his entire site for like almost year. It's quite amusing how him and Wesp5 are still having flame wars to this very day.

In a way he's like ZB. Sure, he's a big-time contributor to the community, but that doesn't mean anybody has to
like him.

You know what?
I just don't have the time to do this. And since everybody seems to believe that the current code is not good I decided to pull it.
There you have it! No more GZDoom!
My god what a big blubbering vagina, this just might be the most infantile, pass-aggress horseshit I've ever seen on the Doomworld forums and I was there for Doom: Rampage Edition. He even demands that the GZDoom forums be deleted, despite the fact that people are still
using it.

Except ZylonClay can take criticism, this cunt can't.

Whipped up a special image macro just for him. My god what a childish display. This is why I'm not a part of the Doom community anymore.

Seriously though, it was mostly his work (from what I can deduce) and if everyone was just claiming it sucked anyway, no harm done with pulling the plug. What, was someone actually paying him to work on it? Cause if he did it for kicks then he can/should be able to also delete it if he feels like it.
I love how people on ther internetz believe they are entitled for everything that was once put up there. INTERNET RAGE
Guy's still a douche though
june gloom on 14/4/2010 at 16:10
The problem is twofold- he refused to address certain problems (detailed by Vortex, though he admittedly wasn't very diplomatic about it) and then because of a small, yet vocal minority of non-stop crying babbys he got all pass-aggro and deleted fucking everything. He's also known for being very temperamental, but nobody expected him to pull this.
Assidragon on 14/4/2010 at 16:16
Well, I read the topic and the guy is someone I'd rather not know at all, to put it mildly. I agree, he's an ass, no mistake there.
But, his idiocy aside, GZDoom is HIS work. He made the engine, for free - best not to forget. Of course, this changes a lot if there were people seriously helping him out, but it doesn't seem to be the case. So if he feels like, he should be able to tell people "Okay, I've had enough, projected deleted, party over GTFO". Isn't that ethical, other than "Thanks for your wasted years on this shit, don't let the door hit you"?
