It's hardly the fault of the GPL that later licenses are incompatible with it.

...except that GPL is designed specifically to be incompatible with other licenses.

Jesus. No one, ever, is under any obligation to use the GPL (or any other particular license) when releasing their own <em>non-derivative</em> code.
If you don't like the GPL, don't rely on, or base your work on, other GPL code. It's not difficult to comprehend.
If you insist on using GPL code, then don't complain, because <em>no one is forcing you to do that</em>. You are absoutely free to write your own non-GPL support libraries if nothing suitable already exists.

Ouch. I mean, I guess that's about as good an interface as you could hope for, and it looks pretty responsive, and <em>maybe</em> you kinda tune it out when playing... but it's still a pretty sorry excuse for game controls.
Gamepads suck as first-person controllers, but I'd take one over <em>that</em> any day.

Jesus Christ, considering the kind of shit that goes on in Doom, having a big fucking thumb in the way is a bad idea.

The thing with the big fucking thumb is that it is your own thumb. You don't really notice it once you get used to the controls.
Having said that, there are better examples of first person controls for the iphone out there (a smaller d-pad to move and drag-anywhere to look/aim). Still, it doesn't come close to the PC controls. It's just a bit of fun having Doom on your phone really, mainly a nostalgia thing.

Yes. Absolutely. Fine by me.
Just don't call it free when it's not.

But see, that's such a non-argument. By claiming this, I can dismiss 90% of all of TTLG. The whole GenGaming can be deleted right now since no one is forcing you to buy any games, so stop complaining. You know what I mean?

this is why there is a distinction between free as in beer, and free as in speech.
Phatose on 18/4/2010 at 17:22
And it's neither.
