As for the guards with helmets, I think it's a good idea, but too many guards with helmets seems like it could get boring, and I don't want to be discouraged from playing higher difficulties because I can't knock everyone's brains out.
Perhaps one level like Framed would be niced. I'm playing it at this moment, and I find that it's actually really fun to sneak about... but only in that level. True, you can't K.O. everyone you see, but the level was built around that, wtih many water arrows hanging about and shadows everywhere.
My point with this is, will it be uninteresting to those who make a habit of sneaking? Some input from you guys would be great!

The people who make a habit of sneaking probably didn't go KO crazy anyways. Levels that made you ghost were always fun, but it did get time consuming to wait for guards to pass by for every hallway.

That' true, It does take a while...
What I meant was, if the level was made to be easier to people who like to knock out everyone, will it be boring to those who sneak anyway?

No, no, three times no! Well, infiltration missions, yes, but as for other types of missions there's no point in setting this limit.I do agree with the helmet idea though.

Why boring? I thought it could be more exciting...Just think about this... ghosting First City Bank and Trust....

Has it been boring in Thief 1, 2 and 3?

For me knockout limits don't work. OR I must have the opportunity to knock every out (which I love to do), OR the entire level must be ghosted (and only when it's necessary for the story.) The knockout limit in Framed is weird; Let's say you blackjacked 3 guards, should they wake up the next morning and say: 'What robbery? I must have fallen of the stairs!" ?

I'm not sure if we're on the same page here.
Geh, lemme see if I can get this right this time.
What I'm saying is, if you have a mission like Framed, it has a lot of shadows, water arrows and almost every light is extinguishable to make it sneakable for people who usually K.O. everyone. Does a level like Framed bore people who sneak anyway and thus don't need the extra shadows?
I like the helmet idea, too. Anything you think that could be added to that idea?

That is a very good point :/ I never thought of that before.
I almost went through Framed on hard (that's my best >.<) without knocking out anyone, but I ended up getting two guards on the way out because I didn't want to sneak anymore.
I guess my point is, those missions, while fun, can get boring.
Anyway, any ideas how to fix this oddity that a knockout limit creates?

Now I see your point.... but one can choose whether to extinguish torch or not. The mission can still remain challenging if you want to.
And the helmet idea.... take a look at MX, I think the knockout-drop is a good alternative to knockout limit.

I think I've added a quote before my comment on your idea....

Yuo can't have a 'free roaming' game like Thief and then impose petty restrictions on the player. If someone has paid their $xx.xx for the Thief experience then they shouldn't be told what not to do.
It would be like GTA with limited car thefts. Steal more than 10 cars and you're automatically busted.
