(feel like an idiot for having to post this but)
i have been trying to figure this out for days:
I just bought the dark project off amazon. it plays just fine. my only problem is the cinimatics. the briefings, the mission compleations, the mission failures, none of them work. it just skips over them. if i try to play the intro, the screen just blinks, then nothing. I have no idea what to do, i have tried a couple things, and seen a couple suggestions to other people that went over my head because i dont know computers, or videocards or i dont even flipping know.
please. help.

What exactly did you try? You will have to be very patient, and take it slow, and follow instructions, even if you don't understand what it all means, because there's nothing we can say to get around the technical stuff. This is an extremely common and very old problem.

Take your time and slow down.
If you need more help, you will need to tell us about your computer. What kind of operating system is it running (XP, Vista, Windows 7, Linux, etc.)? It's unusual that your game plays fine without needing fixes, too.

If the techie stuff confuses you then put the disc in the drive. Open the folder(s) and find the IV5.exe (I think that's the name, in any case it is I something 5)
Copy that file to your desktop. Then Run that (double click the desktop icon) and then start the game. When it executes it should say Indeo installed or the equivalent, and then run the game. Works for me and has worked for years with all operating sytems that seemed to lose the indeo drivers.

heh, for me the cinematics stuff works completely randomly. One time I load it up, it doesn't work, another time it does. Truly, I don't believe I am lying.

For Thief 2 at least, most people have to run it as administrator in Vista or Win7 to see any videos at all. Right-click, run as admin. Dunno if it's also required for T1 for this to work. If it does, you can set it to always run as admin under right-click, Properties. If you're in XP or older OS, then it's something else.

This worked for me.
Run it as administrator... but make sure to exit the program afterward, because without the CPU affinity 'fix'... it will probably freeze within a few seconds of the next stage starting up.
