It's a lovely looking film with good music and good performances, completely let down by the absolutely absurd arrival of space-jason in the last bit. The fucking SUN IS GOING OUT, you don't need a guy with a bloody knife running around to create dramatic tension.

I'm actually planning to revisit Sunshine as I remember being so brutally disappointed by the third act and I want to see if there's any way to glean something worthwhile from it.
To my mind,
Sunshine is the sci-fi equivalent of
28 Days Later. I love both films for what they get so right it hurts, but the script runs out of (good) ideas two thirds into the movie. After the disappointing action/horror sequence, though,
Sunshine again ends on a quiet, perfect moment.
It helps watching the film again and knowing that the whole slasher bit is coming, added to which some of those scenes are still done masterfully (e.g. the death of Corazon). But it is pretty much impossible not to turn against the film for being nearly perfect for 2/3 of its length and then becoming so painfully unimaginative.
Thing is, intellectually I think the Pinbacker character is interesting and makes sense. In his position, you'd probably crack under the pressure of the Earth's fate resting on your shoulders. He *is* god in the sense that he (almost) has the power to end humanity. The problem is, what is interesting about the guy may come out in a novel that shows the guy's thoughts, but if all we get is Burnt To A Crisp Man who spouts the occasional portentous phrase before he stabs another crew member it's difficult to get at what's interesting about the guy. (YMMV, of course.)

I'm very optimistic about Fassbender. He was awesome during that one tavern scene in Inglourious Basterds.
And bloody fucking awesome in
Hunger and
Fish Tank. I'm no big Ridley Scott fan but I'm liking what I'm hearing about this one.

So Lt.Ripley is enjoying her stay at the retirement home, when when when when... OMG she feels nausated, oh shit is she pregnant or secretly bearing an alien human hybrid induced courtesy of our friends of Weyland Yutani corp. and grab it all unlimited, trying to obtain the ultimate killing machine?
This time she is gonna die for good but not before killing some major company chief officers, hell hath no fury like Ripley trying to hold her guts inside one more time.
Something like this crap is what you want to see?
Really?
Are you serious?
Or desperate for more crap?
Is over, end credits are rolling.
