I totally loved the first two movies. Alien 3 is excellent as well, but for fuck sake they didn`t need to kill off Hicks and Newt. Both were excellent in Aliens and worthy of keeping around for another.
Aliens Resurrection on the other hand is a total load of crap. There was so much opportunity for an excellent film there, but instead it all went to hell and it was an action movie only. The prior 3 movies were all Horror/thrillers with some action in there as well.
God the comedy in Resurrection was pitiful as well. "Hey I heard you were dead", Ripley "Yeah I get that alot" pfft. And them having her as part alien and suddenly having super powers and all that was just terrible. She was always better as a 100% human and being just as vulernerable (sp?) as the rest. The book was 10,000 times better. Least in that one the earth got invaded + overrun. Though you could say that that became AvP2 to a lesser degree, and which is a fucking awesome film. Much better than AvP1.

meh, I stand by what I said when I said I thought Cameron ruined the whole thing. Yes Aliens was mega-awesome. but face it. EVERY SINGLE thing you see now that is part of the aliens franchise, comics... action figures.. even fanfics. are all based on HIS interpretation of the universe. If it doesn't have a Pulse Rifle or an Alien Queen than its not "aliens". which is sad. I think the Alien queen in all honesty was a rather hokey addition. One which Giger had nothing to do with. Personally My favorite movie in the series is Alien 3. Its the only one that has a plot totally different from the others. The twists and the surprises are all different. and If Fox had just let Fincher do what he wanted to do from day one it would have been hands down the best of the bunch. You look at his credits since and you should be able to see what he could've done at the time even though it was his first movie.
Personally I think he did his best mopping up the fanboy elements from the previous film to try and make it what it had originally been, and he did it without a script.
If I were the director I would again take the whole thing in a new completely unexplored path.. one that was probably hinted at in the first film when you see Bret being turned into an egg right before Ripley torches him and Dallas. And I'd leave the whole Queen thing out of it.
Anyway.. i'm mixed on the whole thing.. Id like to see another alien movie because its my favorite monster. but I don't want another Fox rape victim of a movie.

I say we take off and nuke the entire franchise from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Nah, the hybrid was cool. It ties into that whole "Who's worse: xenomorphs or humans?" thread that's been running right through every movie. If you were ever under the mistaken impression that the xenomorphs were the bad guys of the series, then the sight of the half-human critter evilly clawing its xenomorph mother's jaw off and instead finding, in Ripley, a true affinity, should have disabused you of it pretty sharpish.
Oh, I totally understand that this is what the hybrid is meant to stand for in the movie, so I'm not going to disagree with you on that. The problem is the execution; as a viewer you're meant to feel some form of empathy for the thing. Instead, the scene just elicites an embarrassed laugh*, primarily because the thing, well, looks so shit.
* A laugh, incidentally, that doesn't even fit in with the rest of the movie's black comedy tone, which is the only way it may have been warranted in this case.

the problem with alien resurrection IS THAT IT IS FUCKING AWFUL as has been pointed out. The script was crap, the aliens looked like crap, the plot was crap, the hybrid was fucking crap, Jeunet was phoning it in, Ron Perlman was even crap for gods sake, thats how much the atmosphere of total crap was pervading everything. They cloned ripley to clone an alien. In terms of moronic plot devices (ET's with DNA? fuck off), thats right up there with 'oh, hes not dead he was an alien double' or whatever let them bring back captain america.
Alien 5, I dunno, how could it be a good idea? I mean, whats the alien series actually got left to say for itself? AVP has already stump-fucked the franchise inside out, its hopeless. Someone needs to come up with something else.

Captain America (Steve Rogers) isn't actually back yet. At the moment Steve is dead and there's Bucky, who's taken on the Captain America persona and his shield who's about to fight a brainwashed clone of Steve. There's also a Steve Rogers who has, with Namor, Bucky and a couple of others, have travelled forward in time to now from the middle of WWII. There's ALSO a Captain America-a-like called Major Victory, aka Vance Astro who's just turned up in space. He's from a different universe. And time.
But Steve isn't back yet!!

I would prefer ALIEN VERSUS PREDATOR VERSUS TERMINATOR VERSUS BATMAN VERSUS FREDDY VERSUS JASON VERSUS ASH VERSUS GHOSTBUSTERS VERSUS MARVEL ZOMBIES. You just can't go wrong with that combination.
