I rented it, but it seems to have the same problem as dead space. Lots of very sharp sounds. Which is great if you want a piercing headache. I'm not really sure why someone decided scraping metal is scary.
Some spoilerage... if you could call it that:
Anyway, the first 'area' is basically a tutorial. It really trivializes the hell world. Eyes may roll.
Oh and:
The TV is on but not plugged in. How is that possible!

Oh Alex, you cad.
And why would you use a little combat knife when you have a bunch of large metal medical equipment around to smack baddies? That stool looks like it could do some damage, or an oxygen tank... or nostalgically a metal pipe.
After that you wake up going to the hill, and all of the town lights are unoperational but Mr. Alex nor the truck driver is fazed. Worst yet Alex runs into an old friend in an unlit park. They carry on like its totally normal. I suppose it could just be the engine, but it would be more moody to have actual orange lighting like most of the other parks/towns on the NA continent. Or I guess it is just a ghost town and Alex is bat shit crazy. I could guess all day, but I digress.
Then you visit your childhood home. What parent doesn't have a secret room in their kids bedroom? Sounds like a sleepover pedo room to me. Anyway, more later.

Love Silent Hill Homecoming, great controls, awsome graphics, physics make you crap your pants now and then. Combat, targeting and camera angles are top notch in my opinion. Talking pc version here.

Pity it shits on the story/atmosphere of the franchise.

I dont mind it being a bit less pant sh*tting nerv wrecking than Silent Hill 2 and 3...

I've read that Homecoming steals a lot directly from Jacob's Ladder, rather than the occasional homage like in the previous games.

Which is part of why I refuse to have anything to do with it. There's a fine line between inspiration and ripping off. Especially since a lot of SH fans don't even know what Jacob's Ladder is.
