(
http://www.youtube.com/show?p=gQ8C5M-toBE) Trailer is now making the rounds.
I felt the original movie was actually decent if a bit Hollywood -- it lacked the tension or depth of the games and was almost entirely a linear sequence of scares, just a rollercoaster, but despite my habit/reputation of being
extremely frothy about Silent Hill as a franchise (I refuse to acknowledge anything that isn't the first 3 games, with a grudging exception to Shattered Memories) I found the movie to at least have the imagery down right. My only real problem with the original movie is how much influence it's had on the later games -- the ones developed by Westerners. Fucking white people not getting the point of Silent Hill, yo.
This movie looks to be more of the same, basing itself off SH3 (which is a direct sequel to 1) but I'm okay with that. We already have a Silent Hill 2 movie as it is -- it's called Jacob's Ladder.
I like the pick of unknowns for the cast, like the lady who plays Heather is almost a complete newcomer, bonus points for deliberately making her a little less conventionally attractive.

I don't even remember anything about the first movie, though I have a feeling I kinda liked it while I was watching it. Honestly, this new one doesn't look very interesting, not even Sean Bean's parts. And having "3D" in the title is never a good sign.

It will be trash as the first movie was. SH movie is supposed to be emotional and deep, it's supposed to have several layers, and the movie was a standard Hollywood style production, action packed and shallow.
Better to spend the money on Downpour, that's a decent game.

I quite enjoyed the first Silent Hill movie. Definitely one of the better videogame movies. Even good on a 2nd or 3rd viewing. Not too many videogame movies that I'd ever bother to watch again.

I agree with you 100% and I still liked the movie anyway. You really should see Jacob's Ladder, though.

This is a complete fabrication. Downpour is a Silent Hill game made after 3 and therefore sucks.

Aye, I agree, I view Silent Hill as really the only non-shitty video game movie. It may not be as in-depth as the games, but it manages to stand on its own as just a good surreal horror flick.
The trailer, imho, looks a wee bit too hollywoodish (look at the cool CGI) but I'm still excited after the first!

Mortal Kombat. Enough said.
Sequel was a steaming pile of shit however.

The Silent Hill movie was good in the sense that it would have been a good movie even if you'd never played or knew about the game, and just judged it against any other movie coming out. Mortal Kombat was funny in a camp way, but if you didn't know there was a game or know the guys, on its own merits it would have just been a random camp movie and you wouldn't really get it. SH, just watch it and you get it.
I mean the whole premise & setting are a pretty rich ideas for a story IMO, so they didn't have to even do too much to get a watchable story out of it.
Edit: For the record, I was saying before, I'm always a fan of mindfuck stories that actually get deep into your mind and mess with the soul parts inside. Jacob's Latter is one of the standard-bearers, exactly the kind of movie I was thinking about when your whole inner-self just starts glitching and you don't know what to trust. The SH movie was a respectable addition.
