It gets a 9 in a 4 page review from eurogamer, my store didn't have it yet, maybe better luck tomorow, it sounds amazing. We have had this discussion before but now that the verdict is in, how good a change of direction is this in your probably not so humble opinion. We now know it's good regardless.

Like I said before, I would play it. It isn't going to do anything for the 'purists', but I think it has enough new ideas and concepts to make it an interesting re-telling of one of my personal favorite games.
I like the idea of using the Wii-mote for direct control of the flashlight (torch for you Brits) and the ability to peek into rooms instead of just a 'digital' opened/closed door. Apparently, the enemies now have the ability to open doors themselves now, too.

Ignoring the fact it's reimagining of the excellent first game, Shattered Memories is doing something new with the franchise and is innovative in general. For last two or three entries, SH has been put through the motions by has-been developers. Eg completely missing the point of SH2's sexy nurses and Pyramid Head and how they were supposed to be unique to how James' psyche interpreted the town.
This maybe the shot in the arm which the series needs.

This. And
THANK YOU. Finally, someone else understands. Those entities were supposedly relative to/representative of James' 'personal 'demons'.

Waiting for PS2 version.

Dethtoll will probably still refuse to even give this game a chance, even after the good reviews. This game at least seems to be true Survival Horror, even if it's more in the vein of say Clocktower.
Let's face it, they're never going to reassemble Team Silent. Even if they did, I don't think that using the same old tired Resident Evil 1 inspired formula is the best way to go in the slightest. I'm not sure if I'd want to play a post-RE4 Action Horror with Silent Hill window dressings either, they already tried that with Homecoming it was pretty fail. Silent Hill protagonists aren't supposed to be combat experts.

Sorry. To be fair, I just didn't remember (both) your opinions. It has been a while since we spoke about this game.

Maybe. I hate to put words in people's mouths, though.

Couldn't have said it better. Especially the first 2 sentences.
