I feel this one should go down as one of the more overlooked games in recent years. As it's more of an adventure game with bits of action, I feel it would've been more well-received on the PC.
Take the bare bones skeleton of SH1's plot, re-imagine it in the spirit of SH2, remove that game's warts (awful, awful combat), and you've got Silent Hill Shattered Memories. I loved it.

Yay, foldy!
Yes, this is available on Wii, PS2, and PSP. There is absolutely no reason not play it. Well, if you got laid off or, for some strange reason, don't have one of these consoles....
But I digress, this is a great adventure game, and I am finding myself coming up short trying to buy something that resembles it. Any suggestions? Even the unusually knowledgeable clerks at the indy store I frequent came up short on recommendations. TTLG forces...HALP!!! I am in withdrawal.

Or if you've sworn off the Silent Hill series after repeated butchering...
That said, I'm willing to give this thing a try eventually. Unfortunately I don't have a Wii or a PSP and I'm not willing to put my PS2 through a lot of use anymore until I get a new one.

I would rather say "disregard every single other piece of information that has been said about every character ever and just make up some stupid shit and call it new".
As a game, Shattered Memories isn't that bad, except for the big huge logic holes that a horse could fall in.
As a Silent Hill game... it makes Origins look good.

One thing I forgot to mention, Akira Kurosawa did the music, and it is fabulous.

I just watched Seven Samurai. Can you tell?
Akira Yamaoka.

I didn't mind, because it played on your expectations, particularly the ending.
I won't deny that the game is an odd bird, but as an adventure game fan, I love the atmosphere, music, story, controls, etc. This is simply one of my favorite games.

Quotable:I have no doubt at the end of the year, Shattered Memories will stand as one of the finest interactive narrative experiences available on the current generation of consoles.
Mmm so nice to find this thread :)
I'm a huge Silent Hill fan but get so fed up with how clichéd the franchise had gotten ever since the movie was made.
Shattered Memories is brilliant though, one of the best narrative games I've ever played. Clever, ingenious, and wow...a story which made me cry. Literally cry, both times I played it through.
It's the only SH game to live up to the promise of the franchise defined by SH2. And I don't care how many SH fans moan about how it's just "a walking simulator". SH games have never been strong on gameplay; their selling point is the atmosphere, design and story, and Shattered Memories is top notch in all three.
Strange how a few months on it's already a forgotten gem. Such a shame.
(I played it on PS2...would love to play it on Wii, though! A friend of mine adored it playing it on the PSP, as well.)
