GiantBomb's Quick Look (first 30min) of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (
http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-silent-hill-shattered-memories/17-1774/) link. You can hear them scream in shock at one point in the video, I think I jumped too. :laff: Not much is revealed really in the video storywise except new game features such as
psychological tests and the
pda/iphone gadget which should/will be the defacto tool in any future SH game.

I emulated it on Dolphin for a little bit (since the PS2 version is far and I'll probably not be around when it comes out), but I dropped it soon after the first town change. It has some really neat ideas, but it raises a few questions.
- Why a SH1 remake? It doesn't seem to be doing the same story, it just uses the same basics.
- Why ice? It's not scary. In any way.
- The non-combat issue seems like a bad idea in practice. When the first info about the game came out, I thought it'd be a good idea, throwing an enemy or two in any given room (or randomly) and asking the player to evade or block them with objects of the environment. I guess I was asking for too much. The way the game's designed, not only is the pacing screwed up by default, not only are the pursuit sequences just tedious and uninteresting, but they also undermine the good parts of the game, i.e. the adventure-focused portion.
I was never a big fan of the combat in SH and the title is already going to alienate the hardcore audience, so I just don't understand why they felt they had to hold back and not just eliminate the monsters altogether and make this a psychological horror-adventure title like Lost Crown.
I'd say I'm disappointed, but I got used to that by the time The Room came out.

I stopped playing the Silent Hill games after 4 came out. This game from what I`ve read here of a Silent Hill 1 remake that isn`t really a remake and doesn`t follow the originals storyline at all and has no combat just sounds completely stupid and not worth playing. 1-4 is enough for me.

Great, I forgot my Wii doesn't read discs anymore, anyone got a simple cure? Disc just won't spin anymore, it used to after a few tries but no more.

Hm, for me it sounds completely brilliant. Why should it follow SH1 storyline? It's not a remake, it's an alternative story. And combat for a surhor is not really necessary. I refuse to play another SH with the same old game mechanics, story, rusty metal alternative world, same cult etc., it's just time to move on. I haven't played Shattered Memories yet, but almost everything tells me this one is better than at least Sh4, Homecoming, and Origins. AT LAST something really new in the stagnating series.

I agree, and here I am not being able to play it. This re-imagining isn't going to make the old games disappear, awesome as they are they are now somewhat old fashioned, it already started to show with Silent Hill 3, Silent Hill 4 was ok, origins is traditional to a fault and Silent Hill 5 is clueless. Can't wait to play this, from what I read it's more true to it's psychological thriller concept than Silent Hill itself.

I wanted a remake with fancy graphics, not some bullshit "reimagining." I watched the trailer when it came out against my better judgement and I was with it until the ice. Silent Hill is dead. Thanks, Konami.

How do you know it's bullshit?

What, you want a chart? Fuck off.

Trying to emulate this, but the controller isn't cooperating with me. I'm getting a red cross in the center of my screen and it won't let me look around, even though every other button works. Any ideas?
