So last night I finally beat Silent Hill 2 (finally got it working on my 360) and I'm in the mood to play some more survival horror games. I love Dead Space and all, but I want something more slow, more methodical, and frankly something more scary.
Silent Hill 3 isn't BC on 360 but The Room is. I can't decide if it's worth playing (it's about 10 dollars on Amazon with shipping and handling, so it's not a huge investment). Some reviewers and fans seem to love the game but there's a lot of detractors who absolutely LOATHE the damn thing. I even read the game wasn't initially supposed to be a Silent Hill game and was shoddily converted via story and a few references into one. The premise is intriguing and the deteriorating room is a neat concept, but from watching gameplay videos the combat seems kinda shitty and the monsters kinda lame.
Can anyone recommend the Room or any other survival horror games that are BC on the 360?

I don't know what positive thing I could possibly say about SH4 other than that it's marginally better than every fucking game that came after it.
Here, I'll let someone else do the talking, because all I can do regarding SH4 is froth at the mouth.

Silent Hill 4 is half of what could have been a good game. The latter half is tedious backtracking and stupid gameplay decisions that continuously bite you in the ass. It's not fun, not even in the non-fun shit-scared creeping dread/oh god oh god got. to. get.
out Silent Hill vein; it's just fucking awful.

It was a vaguely decent game. Then the zombie ghosts came in. :/

hmm, seems like I'll be avoiding this one then. Any other suggestions for survival-horror on the 360/original xbox?
Cold Fear looked interesting but apparently isn't BC :(

Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare and Alan Wake are both good.
Though they're more horror-themed actiongames than survival horror.
Dead Rising might be what you're looking for. The emphasis on survival is strong but I'm not so sure about the "horror" part.

Loved Alan Wake and Undead Nightmare. Dead Rising was fun but a little too cartoony for my taste. Is Fatal Frame any good? I've seen used copies go for like THIRTY dollars on Amazon so I'm more hesitant on that one...

Fatal Frame 2 (good, but not $30, really)
Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth (some people *cough* dethtoll *cough* complain about the suckitude past the point where you get weapons but few games do intensely creepy as well throughout)
Condemned 1 (2 can fuck itself, really)
Also, the recent Aliens vs. Predator's Marine campaign was decent but somewhat fast-paced. The Alien campaign is, as usual, a nice inversion of the survival horror theme.
If you've got a decent PC, Amnesia: The Dark Descent is pretty much the most unrelentingly frightening game in a long while if you can stand the number of mimesis-breaking things the game does in the name of sanity effects.

Deadly Premonition is a $20 game that gives you a ton of content (I'm on 22 hours and only a bit over the halfway mark) and was a surprise candidate for game of the year in 2010 (for those who actually played it).
It's an open world survival horror game (IE you have a large sandbox-y town to drive around in) that combines action and adventure elements. It's also very overtly influenced by Twin Peaks and very weird. It is downright whacked out but spins a pretty intriguing serial killer story with really interesting, unique and likable characters.
I'm plaiying through Deadly Premonition and Alan Wake simultaneously, and while Alan Wake has deliciously gloomy environments, it's a dumb action game that feels like it's missing something.
Although it's a polarizing game (IGN: 2/10; Destructoid: 10/10), I think Deadly Premonition has a lot more to offer, though it can't compare production values-wise to Alan Wake.
Edit: I played Fatal Frame 2 very recently -- in fact, I traded it in to get Deadly Premonition. It strongly reminded me of Lucio Fulci's The Beyond, which I consider to be the most disappointing movie I've ever watched. I feel similarly about FF2 (although it's by no means terrible; just consistently, relentlessly dull).
