Loved Deadly Premonition, loved Condemned, and can't finish Cthulu. The combat is just awful. I love everything else about the game but that combat is dreadful.ill meditate on Fatal Frame some more. Was Obscure any good? The Thing was supposed to be pretty bad right?

I don't know what positive thing I could possibly say about SH4 other than that it's marginally better than every fucking game that came after it.
Aren't you forgetting something? Silent Hill 4 was indeed pretty bad (and that's even with turning a blind eye to the horrible control since, hey, that's seemingly par the course for the series), but it still had that awesome feature where you could peer through a hole in the wall to spy on the hot girl next door. You know, something players can relate to.

Obscure lives up to its name, but I found it to be a fun little game, a little like an updated version of (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweet_Home_(video_game)) Sweet Home, actually. The Thing is actually decent, just so long as you know that every single fucking transformation is scripted.
I'd recommend FEAR but uh yeah don't play the console version of that.
Fatal Frame, ehhhh...... I didn't like it, but I'm in the minority on that.
Manhunt is BC and fucking great, if you like stealth and murder. It's one of my favourite games and a huge influence on me creatively.
The Suffering: Prison is Hell is a fairly obscure action/horror game with some seriously fucked up plot elements, and is an old favourite of mine. Its sequel, Ties that Bind, is not BC however.

Pdenton, are you open to PC-based recommendations as well? What are your PC specs? A lot of these Xbox 1 titles were ported to PC as well and should run on relatively modest systems.

I'm running Steam on my Mac so if it's Steam compatible I guess I can play it, otherwise I'm strictly 360 at the moment while I save up for my PC.
I played Manhunt on PC when it first came out and thoroughly enjoyed it. Scripted transformations aside, The Thing is worth playing? I played an hour of it and enjoyed it for the most part...
The Suffering looked interesting. The Gamespot review I found seems to paint it as more of an action game with horror elements...are there any real survival aspects?
Now, if I enjoyed Silent Hill: Homecoming for the most part, is there a chance I'd like The Room? I mean I played Homecoming before being spoiled by Silent Hill 2, but I can deal with shoddy combat if the story and atmosphere is decent.

The Suffering is definitely an action horror game, but it's not an easy one. Probably not what you're looking for, but story and atmosphere are thick as any Silent Hill fog.
Too bad you're on a Mac, or I'd suggest Afraid of Monsters for Half-Life 1; unfortunately it requires the Steam version of same, and afaik that's not Mac-compatible.

Already played it on Steam actually. I loved every second of it. I might load up They Hunger for old times sake. Remember when there was a glimmer of hope for They Hunger: Source actually releasing?

Yeah. That was before Neil Manke became gravely ill, though. :(

Couldn't you just stick a copy of Windows on it? What are the specs? Assuming your Mac is no more than a couple of years old it could get you through while you save up for a new PC.
