Uhh, because it's not that kind of game? And because Silent Hill is traditionally in third person?

Maybe it's because I grew up with a lot of side-scrollers / isometric games and such, but I never quite get the assertion that first-person is automatically 'more'ish than third-erson. :erg:

Well I had a little disposable income (a true rarity these days) so I ended up buying it. Aside from Portal and LA Noir there's not much else out, or coming out, that I'm into playing. And it was like 8 bucks so not a huge investment.
I really appreciate the feedback and recommendations. I'll let you know what I think once I finish the game. :thumb:

For all of its flaws, SH4 is MILES better than Homecoming, which was not redeeming whatsoever. Definitely check it out if you even liked Homecoming.

If you're right, then it sounds like I'll enjoy SH4. I'm most excited because tomorrow should be a rainy, foggy, lightning storm kind of day and that's when my copy should be arriving in the mail.
I'm not expecting much...if the atmosphere is there in any capacity I'll be happy.

Homecoming and Origins are the only SH games that I have yet to play. Can someone familiar with them explain their strengths/shortcomings for me? I keep seeing them @ the store, and they (especially Homecoming for 360) keep catching my eye. I'd hate to waste my cash.
Thanks ahead of time!

Well, they are not from Silent Team. Just a conveyor belt with frankensteins sewed of randomly chosen elements from ST games.

I think The Room has the most interesting story of any SH game next to SH2. The soundtrack is excellent as usual. The environments are recycled from previous SH games and then you play through them twice, which is really lame, but there are some very cool parts. The visuals are actually worse than SH3, which is weird.
As far as Homecoming goes... any SH game which includes a graveyard sequence is really missing the point. It's very actiony and lacks the soul of SH's atmosphere. The plot is a hodgepodge mess of recycled stuff from previous SH games which doesn't work at all. It opts for shock value instead of true psychological horror, and there are many sequences where you feel like you're playing a completely different game, battling human enemies in entirely non-creepy environments. It's superficially SH - you've got a recycled Yamaoka soundtrack, the same fonts and sounds, similar monster designs - but only superficially. It completely misses the core feeling of the series, which SH4 at least manages to capture.

Okay I actually enjoyed Homecoming so I'll tell you a few positives about it (for me at least):
-Visually it's mostly nice to look at. There's a prison level in particular that looked fantastic on my HD tv. The facial animations are also top notch. But then there's the water...the enemy models...pretty lackluster stuff.
-I actually enjoyed the story, but again, I hadn't played any SH games before so it was all new to me.
-It has real time transitions into the nightmare world, just like he movie. It looks awesome.
-It's relatively lenghty.
-Once you get the timing down, I found combat largely enjoyable.
All that being said, in retrospect, after playing SH2 and now The Room, I can see how low Homecoming ranks. It's very straight forward with little psychological suspense. And the monster designs are uninspired and I don't think I was startled even once. My recommendation would be to buy it used at a Gamestop (if there's one near you) and if you get into it try and beat it before the 7 days return limit is up. If you hate it, return it sooner, either way you'll get your full money back.
