I've never used Tafferpatcher so I'm not sure. But you should have a bunch of .sch files in the root of the /schema folder called stuff like AMB.SCH, AMB_M01.SCH, etc. There should be well over 60 files in there not counting any new ones you've added.
All of the .sch files that you mention are in the root of /schema. What has me wondering is the difference between patched & original files & if I using a different unpatched install would actually make all schemas play. But that doesn't make sense to me, considering all the FMs that I've played that have v1.21 textures (like in torch flames, for example.

There are at least three sets of schema files avialable. There is a set on one of the T2 CDs, which are for version 1.07, and therefore not worth considering. Somewhere online is a set of schemas from version 1.18. Either of them could be the files in your 'original' folder. The set I always start out with is the 'Updated Schemas' from Telliamed's website:
(
http://www.thiefmissions.com/telliamed/)
That could be the one in your main schema folder If you want to be sure you can either compare the files and/or their contents with each set of schemas, or ask DJ Riff.

DJ Riff responded to a PM saying that the 'Original' folder contains Telliamed's schemas, and those in /schema are those from the Dromed Basic Toolkit. However, Telliamed's schemas have capitalized .SCH extensions like those in my /schema folder, and those in 'Original' had lowercase .sch extensions.

This issue for sounds in T2 v1.21 - Tafferpatcher is solved:
With the new schema in Thief2/RES/snd, only the new schema would play and any other sounds (such as footsteps or AI schemas) would not play. Deleting the /RES/snd folder would allow the original sounds to return back to normal.
I deleted Thief2/RES/snd, then put the new schema into Thief2/patchedres/snd. Now the new schema plays, and so does all the other sounds. What should be mentioned is that AI meshes and AI mesh textures still go into the root Thief2/Mesh or Thief2/Mesh/txt16 folders, and objects go into the Thief 2/obj or Thief2/obj/txt16 folders.
As I mentioned, I'm using v1.21 to allow more access for those who choose not to use later T2 releases. I know in this day and age that obtaining CPUs and PC memory are almost like buying table salt, but this first FM will be small and of "tutorial plus" composition.
Thanks to everyone for their time and help.

Patchedres is not the folder in which to be putting FM resources. If you're using a normal isntallation (i.e. not using FMSel) you should be using Thief2\snd (and Thief2\schema for schema files).

That is a better clarification. So I see that it would be Thief2\snd vs. Thief2\RES\snd. DJ Riff has also indicated that the designated resource folder can be specified in cam_mod.cfg. Previously, the new schema would not play if I made a Thief2\snd folder. I will continue to look at it.

Okay, now this issue is really solved. I took the .wav out of /patchedres and remade a Thief2/snd file. Now the new schema will play along with all other sounds. Strange, because it didn't work before.
A real brain scramble, if I may say so.:tsktsk:

I assume you meant a snd folder?

True, it was /patchedres/snd.
