are people making mods for single player deus ex? i've heard about multi, but i wonder if there are any good fan missions for deus ex like there are for thief. thanks.

Oh dear god yes! There are plenty of mods in development for DX but they're some time off, at least not too far off though.
DX is a totally different breed from Thief, therefore you cannot make one-mission style of maps and get by so easily. DX is an RPG, so to do it justice, you've got to make more like campaigns, and that's exactly what the commmunity is doing. There are tons in development, just be sure to check out (
http://www.deusex-machina.com) www.deusex-machina.com on a daily basis and you'll get plenty of mod updates.
On another note, some people are making the simple one-mission style of maps, and so far there are a good handful out. You'll need to visit (
http://www.dxediting.com/.) http://www.dxediting.com/. They have sigleplayer and mutiplayer maps that have been released.
