The old lady and I are big fans of the P.A. series and the Sinister trailers are keeping me focused on that as well. I want to see one in the theatres and since that is a luxury these days I want to get it right.
Have any of you seen either? Both? Opinions? I would appreciate any feedback.

Seeing Sinister in a few hours.
I haven't watched a "horror" movie for ages because they mostly suck. I prefer psychological horror over cheap scares and the trailer looked interesting enough that I though "why not?"
I'll post my thoughts tomorrow or something.

Thanks! I look forward to hearing from you, especially considering you aren't a rabid fanboy of the genre.

Is it me or are they blatantly ripping off Rec? At least in the trailers I saw.

If you're looking for other recent horror films, I would highly recommend Ti West's stuff. I'm not a huge horror fan either but I enjoyed both The House of the Devil and The Innkeepers. Nothing particularly original but he really understands the genre and focuses on mood and atmosphere over gore.

Will do, Dust. And that reminds me, i need to actually see the [REC] movies.

REC was okay. To shaky for me but otherwise a superior take on the genre, especially the end. I'm so glad my copy cut out about 5 minutes before the end on first viewing. I watched it again in the morning thinking "was that really as dull as I thought it was?"and thanking the seven gods that I hadn't seen the real end the night before.
Sinister was disappointing. Good start, good mood, very tense due to the pacing and the cinematography.
Then it all goes balls which was a real shame because the idea, whilst not especially original, was initially very well executed.
When will these people learn that is not what you show, but what you don't show?
Oh they learnt it, but then forgot halfway through the film.
Verdict: 2/5. A waste.

REC is awesome!
:D
And the last minutes before the end....brrrrr.
:D

I watched Chernobyl Diaries the other night 'cuz I was too sick to do anything else.
It kind of wasn't bad? They did a good job of building up tension and not showing much, despite the characters being flat as a board and many of them were interchangeable. Then it all goes downhill in the last third of the film.
3/5 -- good buildup, moody atmosphere, good cinematography, following many of the rules for good horror, some genuinely tense sequences; flat characters, disappointing revelations, cliche ending.

How amusing. Mark Kermode said pretty much what I did. He's copying me!
