I know it mentions in old 2003/4 threads that Sir Terry is a Thief fan, I couldn't find mention of his Wiki entry on these forums though?
In the section '
Computers and the Internet'
(
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terry_Pratchett) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terry_Pratchett
"
Pratchett is also an avid computer game player, and he has collaborated in the creation of a number of game adaptations of his books. He favours games that are 'intelligent and have some depth', and has used Half-Life 2 and fan missions from Thief as examples."
It quotes an article in "Computer and Video Games"
(
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=143656) http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=143656
"What have been your favourite games of the past few years?Far Cry, Call Of Duty, Half-Life 2 and a great many fan missions for Thief! A good fan mission is a joy, because the author reads your mind."
"What do you make of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion? What have been your favourite moments?I'm a thief and an assassin, and treat the game as a continuation of the Thief universe.I'm in it for the sneaking, but I like the free form nature of the game, the fact that you can ignore the quests and set off into this big, complex world. You really can explore. All the best moments have been in the shadows. Pick pockets, open locks, creep away."

Probably been said many times before, but what's so awesome about that is that he's specifically praising Thief FMs, FM makers, and the fans that play them. That's us! We're the ones that share his outlook, read his mind, and bring intellegence and depth to gaming ... out of everything he could have mentioned. It's not like he's just generically praising Thief as a great game. It's Thief through the lens of our FMs that makes it so magical for him. That's really humbling and cool and can't help but make you feel that you have a little special place in the world to get such an accolade from him.

I don't know if he was a member here or not. He used to post regularly on the Thief newsgroup (alt.games.thief-dark-project which appears to be pretty much dead nowadays) and I helped him finish up quite a few FMs though I'm afraid I can't remember which ones.
