Whenever I use my mouse to turn (whether walking or running) the frame rate seems to skip a little bit. Yet, when I use the arrow keys to move, there's no skipping.
I have an AMD 900mhz chip, ASUS mobo, 1.5 gigs of RAM (pc3200 DDR 400mhz), 120 gig hd, Win2K operating system, GeForce FX 5500 AGP video card with 256 megabytes DDR RAM (upgraded from an Nvidia GeForce 4 Ti 4600), and a SoundBlaster Live! sound card with EAX support.
I started having this problem with my old video card which is why I bought the "better" card. So, I don't think the problem is the video card. I am at a loss as to what the cause is as I've played this game before without problems.
All my drivers are current.
Any ideas?

i'm having a similar problem, but i've traced it to my antivirus.
maybe turn it off?

It can also happen if you have MS office on with Fast Find active, or with a Defrag application such as Diskkeeper.
Because they constantly take a snapshot of your system as you are using it, the delay can show up in game play.
I will presume you had any virus and background apps off when you installed. And as mentioned, during play it's a good idea to have Virus apps off also.

I fibbed (just a little bit). My Sound and video drivers are not up to date (damn the thiefsie fool in me!):ebil:
The most current video drivers will not allow Thief Gold to play. Some dialog box came up and said something about pixel generation. Just as well, the sound card drivers seem to inflict more damage on the whole rather than just TG.
I'll give the antivirus solution a try. Thanks guys!

dude, i use the most recent video drivers. and thief gold works just fine (except for a weird, random stutter every time i come back from the menu after saving.) and i have the exact same card as you.

I run all the THIEF games on a ATI X800XT with the current drivers. I have no troubles with them or the FM's.
When I say all, I mean two versions of TDP, Gold, two versions of TMA, and TDS.

It can't work that fine if there's some sort of stuttering after a save. So if your game stutters after a save, and mine gives me a pixel generation error, I'm certain that the latest Nvidia drivers have some kind of problem.

actually, i figured out what it was. my antivirus, which actually waits until i start up thief before running a full system scan. annoying.
