Is 256x256 the best we can do for skyboxes? While Dromed will load higher res ones, they lose their seamlessness and still look very pixelated.
I understand that the editor is simply applying whatever you throw at it, at 0,0 on each of the cube's six sides. So a 1024x1024 panel will only have its upper left quarter (256x256) applied and the rest is ignored. Bummer.

Yep, I have used Infranview to enlarge them to 1024, but don't see any difference. The good ones are a couple megabytes per image file. The bad ones are 1/4 megabyte per file, showing a lot of pixels.
Maybe when NewDark gets another upgrade?

No, it's the menu. I used a 2048x2048 HQ png skybox set without any problems and looked great. The higher the better.

Thanks for the info Sensut. :thumb: This is good to know. I resized from 512x512 to 1024x1024.png with no noticeable difference, but I will try 2048x2048.png

For the love of god, please do not be one of those people who think that upscaling an image will magically cause it to have more detail.

Where did I state this? Read again, you are mistaken!

Yeah, you can't put the air back into the balloon.
So how does one use the larger (2048) image? I used a 1024 but most of it was missing and looked like crap. What's the "menu" you're talking about, Sensut?

You said you
enlarged an image, and didn't see a difference. There's only one way to interpret that. You can't just enlarge a low-res image to make it high-res. You have to use an image that's high-res to start with.
Ricebug, I don't know what weirdness you're inflicting on your install, but higher-res skybox bitmaps Just Work. Right before making this post, I grabbed one of the built-in skybox panels, scaled it up to 1024x1024, doodled on it, and saved it as a PNG. Worked perfectly in-game. Full resolution, no tiling issues.

no any kinds of issues with 2048x2048 skyboxes from me either. You sure your DromEd is correctly installed?
Ricebug on 14/12/2013 at 22:26
I installed it via TafferPatcher. Default settings.
