I enter the CD, click SETUP.exe, nothing happens. The setup.exe is running under wowexec but is idle, and the only way to stop it is to terminate wowexec itself. I think it's the same problem as with Thief install, and the suggested solution("Wait") leaves me staring at the screen till death do us part. Does anyone have any idea how to make it run without resorting to heavy cannons such as Win98 emu? I tried -lgntforce and compatibility modes(Yeah, right, as if these ever help) already.

Are you running XP, Vista, or something else?
Koki on 11/4/2007 at 15:15
Oh yeah, specifics, laff. It's XP, but it doesn't really matter now as I managed to do it. Turns out the trick was to run Win in Safe Mode, and everything worked out smoothly from there. Interesting. If the problem was the same as the Thief install one, it should be written in the FAQ, but forgive me if I don't do the fieldtesting now, I've got a game to play. Also: "Hmmmmhmm... I am a genius."

As long as you promise to play as the University, I forgive you.

Everybody always plays as the University. They're probably the most overpowered faction in the game.

I dunno, the bonus Drones were kinda putting me off, but hello there, Virtual Reality...

It's the bonus to research that's killer. If you can develop your big guns faster than the others, it gives you that much of an edge over them. The downside is that you have to watch out for enemy spies, because they WILL steal tech from you.

That's why the University with Virtual World and Hunter-Seeker Algorithm is unstoppable. Almost no factional negatives.
I'm fond of just letting the game pick a random faction for me. You just can't play the same game landing Zakharov, Morgan, Miriam, Cha'Dawn, or Svensgaard, unless you set the difficulty too low.

I was so excited to play The Pirates when I got Alien Crossfire... That intense joy lasted all of 12 seconds when I realised just how poinlessly restricted being on the sea was in early game. Yeah you're free to expand as you please, and the sea's bounty is yours for the taking, but I just felt disconnected from the rest of the factions.

That's what Svensgaard's land invasion armadas (with marine detachments) are for.
Bringing people together.
