It's nice to see a site dedicated just to stealth gaming, or the stealth aspects of games.
It reminds me of some threads we have buried in here where we talk about different mechanics for stealth and ideas for possible stealth games.* It's a really underdeveloped gameplay style once you start thinking about the potential.
* I often think of possibilities in terms of potential fork projects for Dark Mod, since it's an open source game so it's open to putting its stealth mechanics & AI into other genres, since the base code is very well developed for stealth and better than most recent commercial games I can think of (IMO) -- the AI code alone rocks. ... Genres like ninjas, scifi, spies, predator/prey sim, etc... So much potential out there.
Edit: Since you mention it in one of your posts, aural masking is one of the mechanics they've actually been working on; if a guard walks by a loud generator he won't hear your footsteps as a function of the volume difference to his ears. I don't recall the state of the mechanic right now, but it's definitely in the pipeline if it isn't already in now.

I admit to rolling my eyes when I saw this thread. Color me impressed. Your site pops and is entirely readable. Thanks for the link. BTW, it works great here from Ohio.

That giant unnecessary animated graphic thing ("the year ahead"/"how to kill your dragon"/etc) under the top row of links is not dialup-friendly. It took 22 minutes to load. Luckily the rest of the page loads first and only takes a minute or so.
OTOH the png graphics are nice and small. :thumb:
Sources that are loading scripts: google-analytics.com, wordpress.com, gstatic.com, googleapis.com, google.com, quantserve.com, and sneakybastards.com. Is all that really necessary?
The blackjack graphic has spikes?
I like the overall minimalist design.

Any word yet on the site accessibility problems?

Though the Mechanists are unknown at this point, the sect's influence will soon spread to encompass the entire City. For the moment, though, the Master Builder is worshipped in secret.
Well that's wrong on several counts. Besides, I'm pretty sure that screenshot is just a gear, probably from the electrics or plumbing in one of the nearby rooms.
This Thief-nerd post probably belongs in Thief Gen. :p
Edit: That's maybe a bit unfair - looking in Dromed, it could be intended as a hidden shrine. The object itself is just a normal gear used elsewhere in the game in machinery. There's really no other evidence to suggest that the Mechanists are "in hiding" though - the very next mission has documents showing that the Mechanists have been actively taking over warehouse operations for the best part of a year and are implied to own half the city. Unless you insert a huge gap in the timeline between Running Interference and Shipping and Receiving, the mechanists are very much a powerful and active part of the city from the start of the game.

"See, when a character is sneaking in Skyrim, their chance to be detected isn't determined by light or shadow. Sound can play a factor, but it's not long before a perk eliminates it as one. Detection boils down to the distance between you and the enemy."
I have had my sneak maxed out with all perks since around level 20 or something (I put every perk into sneak until it was maxed) and I'm wearing a full set of Ancient Shrouded Armor and that's not the experience I've had at all. In shadow I can walk 3 inches away from someone and they don't see me, but in broad daylight if it's an enemy (friendly NPC's seem more likely to not detect you for some reason) I'm toast. Also different kinds of enemies seem to be more sensitive when it comes to detecting me. It's much more difficult to sneak up on most animals/creatures than it is on a low-level bandit or a draugr, but whatever. Living by the backstab, even with the max amount of stealth ability, is still decently hard work. Even if I use Shadowcloak of Nocturnal or an invisiblity potion if I'm lit up I'm spotted most of the time. I think the stealth in Skyrim is much much better than in Morrowind or Oblivion (or Fallout 3), but that could have a lot to do with not having the magic chameleon armor/chinese stealth suit that lets you whack shit in the face without any chance of detection. With 100 sneak and all perks I feel more like Garrett than I do an Elder Scrolls 3/4 superman.
