Rebellion have announced Sniper Elite V2, to be published by 505 Games. For release in 2012. Only PS3 and Xbox 360 versions have been confirmed thus far.

(I'm not sure what it is, TBH. The press site said it was a screenshot, but that Kar98 looks a bit hand-drawn.)
I haven't played the first, but have it on my Steam account, so I'll probably do that some time.

Sniper Elite V2 will be a modern take on the critically and publically acclaimed classic Sniper Elite for the current generation of consoles – revitalising a genre all of its own when it is released in 2012.
Released in 2005, Sniper Elite saw gamers playing an American OSS secret agent disguised as a German sniper in Berlin during the final days of World War II.
It earned considerable public and critical applause with its blend of stealth action - which emphasised patience and cunning over reflexes alone - culminating in being awarded ‘Best PC/Console Game’ at the TIGA awards 2005.
“It’s very exciting to be working with one of the new breed of major publishers like 505 Games,” said Jason Kingsley, CEO of Rebellion. “Sniper Elite was an important, genre-defining property and we’re hoping to have even greater success by teaming up with the talented guys at 505.”
Chris Kingsley, CTO of Rebellion, also said: “It’s fantastic for us to be involved in the world of Sniper Elite again. We look forward to winning even more awards with Sniper Elite V2 and wowing the consumers with what will be a great game.”
“We’re very excited to be working with Rebellion on this highly anticipated sequel. Sniper Elite has always been the benchmark of the genre and never been bettered....until now,” said Ian Howe, Managing Director of 505 Games.
“Guaranteed that the sequel will be the most authentic WW2 sniping experience ever – not just in terms of weapon ballistics, but also in delivering the heart-pulsing tension of those do or die moments where one shot really does matter.”

I want this to be good, but I fear Rebellion, for reasons I can't understand, has gone the way of Codemasters (in that they produce rushed, buggy, unpolished messes).
Of course I'm referring to Shellshock 2 (zombies? Vietnam? i was so there. and i liked it in a b-movie kinda way, but I understand the atrocious reviews), Rogue Warrior (uhh, no), and Alien vs Predator (average at very best, I personally hated it).
I got to talk to a few of the programmers via the Shellshock 2 Facebook fanpage and they seem like a fun, passionate lot. They certainly recognized the shortcomings of Shellshock 2...so I guess here's hoping they improve. But you can't deny their recent slump.

The studio that developed both Shellshock 2 and Rogue Warrior, Rebellion Derby (formerly Core Design), was closed down late 2009. So that's automatically less for you to worry about.
AvP 2010 was pretty good, IMO. Sorely underrated. It totally nailed the atmosphere of the (good) Alien and Predator films. It's biggest weaknesses were the rather poor map design, Halo-esque copy-pasted levels and the brief lengths of the Pred and Alien campaigns. I believe dethtoll said that their decision of making the Pred a melee-based class was inspired and I utterly agree.
I played through Rogue Warrior recently. I wore a big shit eating grin the whole way though, the forced over-the-top cheesiness was so bad that it was good. I had far more fun with that game than with Call of Duty: Black Ops, TBH. Also the score was (

Yep, that's concept art, or more like a matte

Shit, that was Core Design? How the mighty fall. :(

Good news, EvaUnit. I recently bought a second copy of Sniper Elite on Steam. Love it. I always hoped to one day see a sequel, and now that I have a 360, I am not even pissed about no announced PC ver.

Judging by that the platform logos at the end of the trailer, it still seems to be a console exclusive. FUUUUUUUUUU.

PR hype:-
Quote:
505 president Ian Howe is tipping Sniper Elite V2 to be "the most brutally realistic military sharpshooter out there on the market"
...
"This is no 'run and gun' game and you have to be strategic, take your time and think problems through rather than go in all guns blazing - exactly what made the original Sniper Elite such a great game."
"The kill cam is both a big part of Sniper Elite's gameplay and a major technical challenge - recreating in exacting detail the effect of a bullet on the human body," added Rebellion CTO Chris Kingsley.

Any news from 505 or Rebellion since the trailer?

The latest press material paints a fairly promising picture, of a game focusing on semi-simulation... but then I see the screenshots and it looks like a Hollywood-esque action game, which isn't necessarily a bad thing either. Having variety is a very good idea, just make sure that all aspects of it are at least fun.
